Elastocon Introduces One Grade of TPE for Most or All Overmolding Needs

Promises to Give Molders a Competitive Advantage, Help Them Trim Inventory Costs

ROCHESTER, IL - Molders now have a way to trim TPE material inventory costs as well as simplify the complexities and rigors when overmolding with a variety of TPEs. This can be accomplished by switching to a new, universal grade of thermoplastic elastomer from Elastocon TPE Technologies, Inc. The new single grade of Elastocon STK40BX TPE provides superior adhesion as well as excellent surface finish to most substrates.

The net result using one TPE overmolding grade (also called two-shot molding) offers these advantages:

o Processors can reduce overmolding time and improve overmolding efficiencies as they build expertise and comfort levels dealing with only one product grade with excellent flow properties.

o Designers can develop edgier end-product designs by having to utilize only a single grade of TPE.

o Molders can reduce inventory by having to only store and use a single grade.

o Processors can gain or offer a possible competitive advantage with the ability to satisfy multiple adhesion requirements.

o Molders can improve overmolding techniques and reduce overmolding shortfalls by becoming familiar with only a single type of overmolding TPE. And

o Processors can assure customers finished molded products great surface finish, excellent colorability and desired performance characteristics.

Elastocon officials acknowledge that two shot or co-extruded parts molding is far more challenging than single component molding. Having to use several different types of TPEs with different performance and molding parameter requiring part and tool design challenges, material selection and modifications often creates unexpected delays, and increased costs.

Additionally, the new easy processing, soft Shore 40A hardness Elastocon STK40BX "universal" overmolding grade:

o Exhibits high flow during processing

o Offers high resilience during use

o Produces dry touch ergonomics with a non-gloss, matte surface finish

o Is UV stable

o Is both latex and phthalate free

o Is non-toxic

o Makes covers that are excellent for vibration and shock dampening applications

o Can be used for other applications where product protection is a must

o Is available in small 50 lb. bag quantities

o Can be overmolded onto PC, ABS, PC/ABS, acrylic, HIPS, copolyester, various grades of polyamide and more

o Is versatile - the new TPE can be injection molded as well as extruded or blow molded.

Additionally, Elastocon offers the 2800 Series and 8000 Series of TPEs, the SMR Series of TPOs, the STK Series for overmolding, and alloys, all of which can be injection molded, extruded, blow molded or compounded. Elastocon thermoplastic elastomers do not require drying and are offered for applications that require rubber-like properties, impact resistance, colorability, a good surface finish, easy processability, reduced material usage and numerous other features and benefits. All Elastocon grades are free from latex, and are RoHS and California Proposition 65 compliant, with many of the company offerings being FDA compliant, as well as UL and NSF approvable, and are suitable for medical applications. Elastocon can provide ISO reporting for manufacturing and shipping. All grades are reclaimable and recyclable.
