Elster Introduces New Version of REXUniversal Meter
Enhancements Add New Levels of Cellular Communications Support
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Elster Solutions has released a new version of its REXUniversal® meter that further enhances the smart meter line's interoperability and interchangeability with other smart grid vendors. This version incorporates point-to-point cellular communications technology which greatly expands the number of rural and remote residential utility customers who can be served by smart meters and modern smart grid systems.
As the world's first integrated universal meter platform, the REXUniversal opens the smart grid playing field with capability to support smart grid systems from numerous vendors. With the addition of cellular support, the Elster REXUniversal meter now operates on cellular as well as mesh AMI networks. Plans are in place to expand support via Elster's open communications architecture for a growing list of third-party communications technologies. Verizon (CDMA) and AT&T (GSM) cellular networks are supported with this release.
