New GU5R For Taper & ID Grinding in One Setup

Arlington Heights -- August 23, 2004 -- Toyoda's new GU5R universal grinder features a CNC-controlled swivel table for easy and accurate taper grinding.

The three-in-one universal machine is capable of numerous grinding operations. The wheelhead supports three grinding wheels and rotates between straight, angle and ID grinding automatically, and without changing the part set up.

For taper grinding, the new automatic swivel table rotates from 0 to 10 degrees via NC motor. This feature improves accuracy since the operator need only control the wheelhead axis for precision tapers.

The wheelhead accommodates up to six different wheel arrangements. The operator can use large grinding wheels up to 20 inches in diameter, even when two OD wheels are on the same side of the wheelhead.

The single, fixed dressing point for all three wheels is on the traverse table. It doesn't need to be repositioned regardless of tailstock location, part diameter, or swivel table angle.

The operator can enter programming data via NC table, pictograms, or traditional G-code on the new Toyoda-HMI. The touch-screen panel, display menus, and preprogrammed grinding cycles keep the programming time to a minimum. Background programming allows the operator to enter new part data without interrupting production.

For a demonstration of this new grinder's capabilities, visit Toyoda at booth #8018 during IMTS 2004.
