Terminator and Cable System is suited for U320 SCSI systems.

Press Release Summary:

LVD Terminator and Internal Cable System matches impedances of bus to help insure that bus terminates in stable environment. Terminator supports LVD SCSI drivers. Active chips on terminator pcb detect type of SCSI drivers present on bus via voltage on DIFFENS SCSI control line. Circuitry includes 2.7-5.25 V operation, differential failsafe bias, built-in SPI-3 Mode ChangeFilter/Delay, and tightly controlled impedance and capacitance for single lines.

U320 SCSI Terminator and Cable System from Molex Delivers Reliable Signal Integrity

DesignCon 2003, Santa Clara, CA - January 28, 2003 - Achieve dependable connections for U320, the next generation of SCSI systems, with the U320 SCSI LVD Terminator and Internal Cable System from Molex Incorporated. This internal connection system is designed to match impedances of the bus and help insure that the bus terminates in a stable environment. It is ideal for applications including Networked Attached Storage, RAIDs, host bus adapter cards, PCI add-in cards, file servers, work stations and tape storage systems.

The Molex Terminator supports only LVD SCSI drivers; it does not support single-ended (SE) and high-voltage differential (HVD) SCSI drivers (EIA485). The active chips on the terminator pcb detect the type of SCSI drivers present on the bus via the voltage on the DIFFENS SCSI control line. If they detect the presence of an SE or HVD SCSI driver, they disconnect by switching all terminator resistors off and enter a high-impedance state. The Terminators can also be commanded to disconnect the terminating resistors.

The Terminator's circuitry includes 2.7V to 5.25V operation; differential failsafe bias; built-in SPI-3 Mode ChangeFilter/Delay; and tighly controlled impedance and capacitance for single lines. The PCB card used in the Terminator provides controlled impedance traces to maintain signal integrity. The Terminator connects to the cable via a 68-pin IDT transition connector.

Molex offers a broad range of cable assembly solutions using the Terminator, from the standard three and five-drop versions to customized versions. All cables meet SPI-4 specifications.

Pricing for the Terminator System depends on quantity and cable type. For example, when purchased in production quantities, a Terminator System with three drops would cost about $37.80 each. Typical lead time is 10 to 12 weeks.
