Sipex Launches SP63XX: World's Lowest Power Supervisory Family

New SP63XX Family of Dual/Triple/Quad Supervisor ICs are highly flexible, space saving, low operating voltage devices

MILPITAS, Calif., April 14 / -- Sipex Corporation today announced its new dual/triple/quad family of supervisor ICs, the SP63XX family. This series of products, ranging from the quad SP6330 to the dual SP6342, is designed to operate with a wide operating input voltage range to address traditional operating voltages and newer applications which require operation down to 1.6V, with reset threshold voltages down to as low as 0.5V; a critical factor as system operating voltages continue to drop.

These devices also operate with supply currents as low as 20uA, ideal for battery-operated systems and represents the industry's lowest power supervisory circuits available. When compared to currently available supervisor ICs, the SP63XX family uses one-third of the current, prolonging battery life, which is critical for portable systems.

The supervisor function is necessary for reliable operation in many applications including computing, communications, industrial, embedded controlled systems, medical, and battery-operated equipment. Supervisor ICs monitor the power applied to the CPU, GPU, DSP, and ASIC, ensuring that all supplies are present and stable. Without supervision, serious damage could occur to these systems.

With flexible configuration and small outline packages, these products provide space savings and simplify system architecture. These easy to implement ICs fill a variety of application requirements for the accurate monitoring and reporting status of multiple voltage rails. Four voltages can be simultaneously monitored with a single IC and two channels, available in programmed voltage thresholds.

The SP63XX provides a variety of options with full feature sets which include: Manual Reset, Watchdog Timeout, and a Power Failure flag. "Our new supervisor IC family is ideal for today's applications which require accurate system monitoring in a small package and where battery life is critical," said Chris Lee, Technical Marketing Manager for Sipex. "In addition, the watchdog ensures that the system does not operate erroneously when supply voltage is out of the specified operating range. This is vital during system power-up and power-down sequencing."

Pricing and Availability

The SP6330 - SP6342 is available in tiny TSOT lead-free packaging, in an extended temperature range from -40 degrees C to +85 degrees C. Pricing is $1.75 in 1K units. Datasheets and additional support documentation can be found at www.sipex.com.
