IAR Systems Launches Starter Kit for ColdFire

IAR KickStart Kit includes newly released version of IAR Embedded Workbench for Freescale ColdFire

UPPSALA, Sweden-March 25, 2008-IAR Systems has announced the launch of IAR KickStart Kit(TM) for ColdFire®. The starter kit provides everything that a developer needs to begin developing a system on a Freescale ColdFire microcontroller, straight from the box. At the same time IAR Embedded Workbench® for ColdFire is being upgraded to Version 1.20.

The kit includes an MCF52223-SK evaluation board, a limited edition of the newly released IAR Embedded Workbench V1.20 for ColdFire, IAR J-Link for ColdFire BDM26 debug probe, and a 20-state evaluation edition of IAR visualSTATE.

IAR Embedded Workbench V1.20 for Freescale ColdFire is an integrated C/C++ development environment for building and debugging embedded applications. It provides full support for devices with ColdFire V1, V2 and V3 cores and generates very compact and efficient code. Highlights in this latest version include a new data model for near relative addressing, additional C-SPY debugger support for P&E microcomputer Cyclone Pro and Cyclone Max, Flash loader drivers, and support for the most recent ColdFire devices. The KickStart edition included in this kit has a size limitation on compiled code of 16kB for a V1 core and 32kB for a V2 or V3 core. In addition to this and the full version of IAR Embedded Workbench for ColdFire, a new baseline edition has also been introduced: this has a size limitation on compiled code of 64kB for a V1 core and 128kB for a V2 core.

The development board in IAR KickStart Kit for ColdFire integrates a Freescale MCF52223 microcontroller and features a 2x16 character LCD screen, 16 LEDs, 4 buttons (GPIO) and PWM to buzzer. External connections include: a JTAG-BDM26 connector; I2C routed to header pins; 3 UART connectors (DB9); SPI routed to header pins; USB connector (OTG/host jumper selectable) and a SD/MMC socket. DC power is supplied to the board either via an external power connector or through IAR J-Link, selectable using a jumper. An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) provides output to a to potentiometer, and the board also incorporates a power supply LED indicator and a reset button, as well as a user prototyping area. The board is fully RoHS compliant.

A BDM26 cable and a USB cable are also included in the kit.
