Stain Repellents offer environmentally sensitive protection.

Press Release Summary:

Dow Corning® 6706W and 6707W are water-based fluorosilane post-treatments that provide environmentally sound water and oil repellency to porous construction materials like concrete, natural stone, pavers, mortar, and grout, without affecting their appearance. Small molecular size allows them to penetrate easily into material surface, where they chemically bond to most construction substrates. Hydrophobic protection reduces water absorption, and products are UV-stable and solvent-free.

Dow Corning Launches New Penetrating Stain Repellents for Building Materials

Water-based products offer effective, environmentally sensitive protection

MIDLAND, MICHIGAN, USA: Dow Corning Corporation, a leader in innovative silicone technology for the construction industry, has added two new products to its family of stain and water repellents. Dow Corning® 6706W and 6707W Penetrating Stain Repellents are water-based fluorosilane post-treatments that provide effective, environmentally sound water and oil repellency to porous construction materials like concrete, natural stone (such as sandstone and limestone), pavers, mortar, and grout.

According to Shawn Kuch, North American marketer for Dow Corning's building materials protection group, substrates treated with the new stain repellents retain both water vapor permeability and their original appearance with the additional benefits of reduced dirt pick-up and easier cleaning. "Environmental factors such as water, oil, stains, and sunlight can have harmful effects on construction materials by damaging surfaces, reducing aesthetic value, and increasing maintenance costs," said Kuch. "Dow Corning's new family of penetrating stain repellents provides durable, environmentally sensitive protection to these materials without affecting their appearance."

The small molecular size of Dow Corning 6706W and 6707W Penetrating Stain Repellents allows them to penetrate easily into the material surface, where they chemically bond to most construction substrates. The resulting layer of hydrophobic protection reduces water absorption and the damage that can occur due to freeze-thaw cycles. "Because they are UV-stable and maintain good water vapor permeability, projects will benefit from improved, long-lasting appearance and easy maintenance with these products as well," said Terry Chapman, application engineer and technical service representative for Dow Corning's building materials protection group.

The 6706W Penetrating Stain Repellent is a ready-to-use product. The 6707W Penetrating Stain Repellent is a concentrate that can be diluted with soft water. Both products are solvent-free and will not damage glass, metal, wood, or most plastics.
