Headwall Photonics Introduces New Line of Application-Specific Spectrometers for OEM Markets

Configurable Summit 6400 Spectral Engines Feature Low Stray-Light, High-Resolution and Unequaled UV Performance

Fitchburg, Mass., March 8, 2004 - Headwall Photonics today introduced the Summit(TM) 6400 line of configurable single-beam OEM spectrometers. The Summit 6400 Spectral Engines features low stray light, a wide dynamic range and unequaled performance, particularly in the ultraviolet (UV) spectral region (~ 1 nm resolution from 190- to 400-nm). Designed for the most demanding environments, these compact and robust spectral engines are ideal for integration into a variety of spectroscopy-based instruments and systems for industrial process monitoring, medical diagnostics, high-throughput screening and laboratory research.

Featuring the company's all-original holographic diffraction grating technology, the Summit 6400 Spectral Engine is a highly customizable optical platform for non-destructive measurement tasks such as colorimetry, moisture determination, layer thickness, chemical concentration and many others. In addition, Headwall's engineering team can custom design and manufacture the Summit 6400 to solve nearly any spectroscopy-based measurement problem.

All Summit 6400 products utilize a 512-element silicon photodiode array detector and low-noise, 16-bit electronics. Resolution varies from ~ 1 nm to ~ 4 nm, depending on the spectral range chosen. Scan rate is four spectra per second. Aperture is f/2.5 and focal length is ~ 100 mm.

"The Summit family of products generate the best spectral signature of any competing product on the market today," said David Bannon, vice president of sales and marketing at Headwall Photonics. "Design engineers will find them particularly useful as a modular, optical building block for OEM applications in the area of spectroscopic instruments and process monitoring systems."

Headwall Photonics leverages its expertise in nanophotonics manufacturing and engineering to produce a portfolio of spectral modules and optical subsystems for the analytical, life sciences, medical and pharmaceutical industries. The company was founded in 2003 after a management buyout of Agilent Technologies' Holographic Grating Operation, which originally existed as American Holographic prior to 2000. Products include application-specific single- and dual-beam spectrometers, custom holographic diffraction gratings, and high-performance spectrographs. www.headwallphotonics.com
