Specialty Tool enables 90° bends to be made in punch press.

Press Release Summary:

Opti-Bend tooling helps fabricators achieve lean manufacturing goals by eliminating secondary bending operations. With this solution, simple 90° bends can be made in thick turret or Trumpf-style punch presses. Tooling creates 90° wipe up form using rotating cam, built into die, that acts like press brake. Results include minimal to no sheet marking and fewer required hits. By enabling smaller bending operations on punch press, tooling can reduce part handling and setup time.

New Specialty Tool from Wilson Tool Allows Fabricators to Perform 90-Degree Bends in a Punch Press

WHITE BEAR LAKE, MINN. (April 7th, 2009) - The new Opti-Bend tooling from Wilson Tool is designed to help fabricators achieve their lean manufacturing goals by eliminating costly secondary bending operations.

Wilson Tool's new Opti-Bend tooling allows sheet metal fabricators to perform simple 90-degree bends in thick turret or Trumpf-style punch presses. Performing simple bends on a punch press helps fabricators to reduce or eliminate the number of secondary forming operations they may otherwise need to perform on a press brake.

Opti-Bend tooling creates a 90-degree wipe up form using a rotating cam built into the die that acts much like a press brake. The result is little to no sheet marking and fewer hits are required than a traditional wipe up tool. By enabling smaller bending operations on the punch press, Opti-Bend tooling can significantly reduce part handling and setup time resulting in greater productivity.
