Delta Introduces the M80U, World's First Wall Mounted 80kW String Inverter for Commercial and Utility Applications

Latest addition to solar inverter product line brings Delta's energy saving technology and superior operating performance to growing markets

FREMONT, Calif., -- Delta, a leading provider of power and thermal management solutions, today announces the unveiling of its M80U Photovoltaic (PV) inverter, the first wall mount 80kW string inverter in the world. The M80U is a grid-tied, 3-phase and transformerless inverter that converts direct current (DC) output from a photovoltaic system into a utility frequency alternating current (AC) with industry-leading efficiency of 98.8 percent, allowing it to be seamlessly used by the electric grid and within buildings. Designed with simple installation and energy performance in mind, the M80U expands Delta' best-in-class transformerless solar inverter technology to address the growing needs of commercial facilities and utility operators.

"We're extremely excited to welcome the M80U product to Delta's line of solar inverter products for the North America market," said M.S. Huang, President of Delta Americas. "Solar energy is one of the greatest resources available in our quest for a more sustainable future. It is our vision that the innovative design, diverse features and high efficiency of the M80U will make it even easier for businesses and utilities to expand their renewable energy development."

As a 2-stage inverter, the M80U has a wide input operation range spanning from a 200 to 1000 volts direct current (Vdc). In accordance with Delta's mission of "to provide innovative, clean, energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow," its latest solar inverter incorporates exciting and advanced features that will deliver maximum efficiency over a much wider power range than transformer-based inverters. Leveraging Delta's industry-leading switching power technologies, the M80U provides superior performance with a peak efficiency of 98.8 percent and a California Energy Commission (CEC) efficiency of 98.5 percent.

As with its interior components, the M80U's exterior was developed for versatility in order to account for a widening range of customer needs. The M80U employs a separable structure that meets NEMA 4X Enclosure Standards to protect personnel and prevent degradation or damage from adverse environmental conditions. To make installation as seamless as possible, the ergonomic grip and eye bolts provide an added level of convenience when installing or removing. In order to maximize space, the inverter can be easily mounted on the foothold of the PV panels without the use of a house or container.

The device's all-in-one design integrates 16 strings with fuses protection as well as arc fault detection circuits. It includes built-in DC switches and AC and DC surge protection devices (SPDs). To provide increased flexibility during PV array configuration and maximize yield, the M80U is equipped with 2 maximum power point (MPP) trackers. As a result, the inverter is able to ensure optimal performance even in challenging environments, such as those with uneven grounds.
