Severn Trent Introduces Standardized ClorTec® On-Site Sodium Hypochlorite Generation System

The ClorTec Series MCT offers standard features, ensuring easy ordering; compact design offers benefits, too.

FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. - October 2, 2007 - Severn Trent Services has introduced a standardized ClorTec® Series MCT on-site sodium hypochlorite generating system to meet disinfection requirements for 12 to 36 lb/day and 5.4 to 16.3 kg/day of chlorine equivalent. The Series MCT systems are supplied in a factory-tested, skid-mounted configuration and come with standard features including a high-efficiency electrolytic cell or cells, on-board water softener, integrated control panel/power supply and brine proportioning pump. Standardization of the ClorTec MCT ensures easy ordering, and the system's compact design allows for easy maintenance and system expansion.

On-site sodium hypochlorite generation is a proven, reliable and safe alternative treatment to chlorine gas and bulk sodium hypochlorite disinfection. The use of on-site-generated sodium hypochlorite reduces the formation of disinfection byproducts and improves water quality. Generating disinfectant at the water treatment plant without the use of dangerous chemicals eliminates potential hazards associated with transportation and storage. Further, the 0.8% solution generated from the ClorTec system is non-hazardous.

The on-site generation process also is a cost-effective disinfection alternative. A pound of chlorine equivalent can be generated on site using salt, water and electricity for as low as 20 cents/lb or 33 Euro cents/kg of chlorine equivalent. Systems typically provide a return on initial investment within three to five years.
ClorTec systems are suitable for potable water, wastewater, odor and corrosion control, cooling towers, oxidation and swimming pool disinfection applications. In the United States, systems are NSF Standard 61 and 50 certified and have ETV verification. In Europe, the systems are ATEX-compliant.
