SMA Concentrates optimize polyamide performance.

Press Release Summary:

Available in pellet form, SMA® 9000 Styrene Maleic Anhydride Concentrates optimize post-consumer, post-industrial, and virgin polyamides. SMA 9001 was developed to modify virgin and clean recycle polyamide streams as well as impart melt strength or compatibility in polymer blends. SMA 9002 modifies and compatibilizes dirty recycle streams by repairing damage and restoring melt strength of polyamides contaminated with more than 10% polypropylene, calcium carbonate, or other materials.

New Styrene Maleic Anhydride Concentrates from Cray Valley Improve Processing and Performance of Polyamides

SMA® 9000 products to debut at NPE 2012 and Chinaplas 2012 shows

EXTON, Pa., - New SMA® 9000 series pellet masterbatches from Cray Valley are formulated concentrates that are optimized to improve polyamide performance. Ideal for extrusing and compounding, SMA 9000 series concentrates are designed to improve melt strength of post-consumer, post-industrial and virgin polyamides. Beyond chain extension, they serve as compatibilizers for blends, or dispersants for contaminants and, to improve mechanical performance of the end product.

SMA 9001 was developed to modify virgin and "clean" recycle polyamide streams and impart melt strength or compatibility in polymer blend formulations. SMA 9002 effectively modifies and compatibilizes "dirty" recycle streams by repairing damage and restoring melt strength of polyamides contaminated with more than 10% polypropylene, calcium carbonate or other materials. This allows processors to use a higher proportion of recycled material to reduce virgin resin consumption without compromising the properties of their end product.

"Advances inrecycling technology have made recycled polyamide streams more abundant, be it used carpeting or automotive scrap, but producers still face significant challenges working with degraded, contaminated materials to produce materials that cancompete against virgin polymers," said Jeremy Austin, business development manager for Cray Valley Hydrocarbon Specialty Chemicals. "SMA 9000 concentrates increase the performance of recycled polyamide, freeing manufacturers to use more recycled content. That reduces their material costs and it's good for the environment."

Manufacturers willfind the pellet form easier to handle than conventional powders. Further, it ensures that SMA 9000 mixes uniformly with the resin and disperses homogenously in the extrusion process. The product is available in pallet quantities of 50-pound bags or gaylord bulk boxes.

SMA 9000 series concentrates will make their North American debut at this year's National PlasticsExposition (NPE) at Cray Valley's booth #37010. The show is April 2 - 5 in Orlando. The product will also be showcased at the Chinaplas 2012 trade fair, booth #N3S37, April 18 - 21 in Shanghai.
