Single Channel Power Switches provide USB port protection.

Press Release Summary:

Housed in standard SOP-8L and exposed pad MSOP-8L-EP packages, active low enable Model AP2145 and active high enable Model AP2155 protect consumer, computing, and communication applications subject to heavy capacitive loads and short circuits. Units are rated at 0.5 A with transient response time of 10 µs and 1 A current limiting capability. Switches offer reverse current blocking; over-current, over-temperature, and short-circuit protection; controlled rise-time; and under-voltage lockout.

Original Press Release:

Diodes Incorporated Raises USB Port Protection with Single Channel Power Switches

Dallas, Texas - Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq: DIOD), a leading global manufacturer and supplier of high-quality application specific standard products within the broad discrete and analog semiconductor markets, today introduced 0.5A single channel power switches optimized for USB port protection and other 3V-5V hot swap interconnects. The AP2145 (active low enable) and AP2155 (active high enable) devices provide complete protection solutions for consumer, computing and communication applications, subject to the possibility of heavy capacitive loads and short circuits.

The power switches are fully compliant with USB standards and are available in industry
standard SOP-8L and exposed pad MSOP-8L-EP packages. Their fast 10µs transient
response time prevents unnecessary system shutdown and restart actions while their
accurate 1A current limiting capability helps reduce system rail current requirements and related component costs.

Offering reverse current blocking and over-current, over-temperature and short-circuit
protection, as well as controlled rise-time and under-voltage lockout, the AP21X5 parts will significantly improve the robustness of USB ports. In addition, an in-built 7ms de-glitch period on the Flag output will prevent erroneous over-current reporting without the need for any external components.

UL and IEC60950-1CB Scheme certified, the power switches meet industry's most rigorous
safety standards. Operating temperature rating is from -40ºC to +85ºC, and current
consumption in shutdown mode is a maximum of just 1µA.
