Davis-Standard's New SurfaStart Winder Targets Mid-Range Markets

(Fulton, N.Y.)--Davis-Standard, LLC recently expanded its winder product line with a new Black Clawson Converting Machinery “SurfaStart” servo controlled winder. This model, the SurfaStart 1000, is designed to meet the needs of mid-speed and mid-width markets for coated paper, film and non-woven products. Rolls of material up to 120-inches (3 meters) wide at speeds up to 1,000 feet per minute (300 mpm) can be slit and wound into shippable, high quality rolls up to 60 inches (1.5 meters) in diameter.

The SurfaStart 1000 incorporates a patented stationary knife transfer system, a bump-less primary to secondary winding position transitioning system, and programmable tension and nip control for winding rolls directly off the process line. The slitter mandrel, spreader roll, core accelerator, drum, primary arm indexing, and transfer knife positions are all servo controlled. This ensures accurate speed and position control of all essential winder components.
