Alpha Introduces Higher-Torque Servo Actuator

Elk Grove Village, IL - alpha gear drives, Inc. is introducing the TPMA High-Torque AC Servo Actuator, a higher-torque version of their successful TPM servo actuator. This product is a brushless AC servomotor with a low backlash, high precision TP-High Torque planetary gearhead, a resolver or absolute encoder and an optional holding brake.

The TPMA AC servo actuator is available in a variety of frame sizes and comes in gear ratios of 110:1 and 220:1 with continuous torques from 480 to 2600 Nm. It was designed specifically for servo applications that require highly dynamic moves, high-torque output and a minimal footprint, such as load/unload robots and rotary positioning tables. The TPMA's integrated design makes it 50% shorter and much lighter than a traditional motor-gearhead combination of comparable power. It is compatible with servo controllers from many of the industry's leading manufacturers.

The TPMA incorporates rugged tapered roller bearings in the output stage and utilizes a driving flange rather than a shaft, eliminating the need for additional bearing components in the user's machine. It has an extremely high torsional stiffness due to its rigid bearing design, output flange and integration of the pinion gear to the motor. This design allows for much higher positioning accuracy (less than 1 arc minute of backlash) and higher load and acceleration capabilities resulting in fast cycle times, short settling times and reduced production costs.
