Announcing B&G Vulcan 5 Sailing Chartplotter

Expandable Multi-Touch Display Offers Easy Electronic Navigation

Romsey, UK – B&G®, the world’s leading sailing navigation and instrument specialist, announced today the release of the new Vulcan 5 standalone chartplotter.

Built on the proven Vulcan 7 platform, the Vulcan 5 is equipped with a 5-inch multi-touch screen with pinch-to-zoom capabilities. The unit’s intuitive menus allow sailors to quickly select options for fast and easy navigation. Designed to be the perfect companion for cruising and racing yachts of all sizes, the chartplotter offers the industry-leading navigation features sailors expect from B&G, including: built-in GPS, waypoints, routes, a choice of cartography providers, integrated autopilot control, and more.

Integrating easily with existing NMEA 2000® networks, the Vulcan 5 allows sailors access to B&G’s award-winning SailSteer functionality with the addition of a wind sensor. By connecting a boat speed sensor, users can unlock a host of additional features including tide and current measurements, making it the ideal primary navigation display. When paired with a ForwardScanTM sonar transducer or Broadband RadarTM, Vulcan 5 offers navigators a powerful collision avoidance system.

“From its internal, high-speed GPS, to the award-winning SailSteer functionality, as well as the ability to use ForwardScan sonar, every part of the new Vulcan has been designed to meet the needs of sailors, no matter the size of their boat,” said Leif Ottosson, CEO, Navico. “Vulcan can grow with a navigator’s need, thanks to being easily expandable.”

Compatible with GoFreeTM wireless technology – thanks to built-in Wi-Fi – sailors can control and view navigation information via a tablet or smartphone, wherever they are on board. GoFree technology also allows downloading software updates and purchasing of charts and apps via the GoFree Store when in range of an Internet hotspot.

Available from authorized B&G dealers worldwide, the Vulcan 5 standalone chartplotters are priced at $419 USD.
