Permanent Escape and Rescue Ladder (PEARL) Debuts at International Builders' Show

First-of-its-kind home safety device allows builders to save lives, increase revenue

ATLANTA, Jan. 16 / -- PEARL Protected, creators of the revolutionary Permanent Escape And Rescue Ladder (PEARL), announced the availability of the company's flagship product at the International Builders' Show (IBS) in Orlando last week (January 11-14, 2006). PEARL, which launched during National Fire Prevention Week in October 2005, is available nationwide to builders, dealers and distributors as well as to Florida's new home construction market through the company's first major distributor, Boise Building Solutions.

Unlike portable or other escape ladders, PEARL is a first-of-its-kind home safety device that is permanently installed into the wall space below upper- story windows, allowing homeowners to quickly and easily escape or be rescued in the event of a residential fire or other home emergency. The unit is made of a paint-grade access door that blends with any decor and can be used by children or the elderly, the two groups most susceptible to injury or death in residential fires (Source: National Fire Protection Association). PEARL, which has been touted as the Air Bag for the Home(TM), is being marketed to homeowners and to builders who will offer it as a standard safety feature in new homes.

"Today's builder market is more competitive than ever, so builders are relying on value-add products and services to differentiate themselves from the competition," said David Duley, co-founder and CEO of PEARL Protected. "Helping homeowners protect themselves and their families with PEARL gives builders a competitive advantage that moves them beyond price tags and into the kinds of 'must-have' features that can't be measured in dollars and cents."

For example, Boise Building Solutions signed with PEARL Protected in October 2005 and plans to expand its distribution through additional channels in Florida and North Carolina in 2006. PEARL is also featured in model homes from custom and national track builders nationwide including Homes by Laura and Masterpiece, a division of Orleans Builders. PEARL Protected is currently negotiating contracts with additional builders, dealers and distributors across the U.S.

In 2004, there were approximately 400,000 reported home fires in the U.S., resulting in 3,190 civilian deaths, 13,700 civilian injuries and $5.8 billion in direct property damage (Source: National Fire Protection Association). Many of these deaths and injuries occurred in second- and third-story residences where a secondary means of escape was not available.

PEARL helps close this gap in residential fire safety by addressing the most important element of a good fire safety plan - the need to escape and be rescued from danger. Currently, East Point, GA, a city in metro Atlanta, is considering measures to reduce the number of fire-related injuries and deaths through a citywide ordinance that will require builders to offer a mandatory secondary means of escape with a continuous path of safety to the ground outside. Residential escape code and ordinance reforms are incomplete without a permanent, reliable means for occupants to get out of danger.

"Builders are acknowledging that residential fire safety is important because homeowners are embracing the concept that safety is never optional," said Duley, who is also a resident of East Point, GA. "Including PEARL as a standard feature in their new construction homes is a logical next step for builders who want to stay ahead of the residential safety curve."

The International Builders' Show is the nation's premier event for the housing industry, providing members of the home building industry with an unparalleled opportunity to examine and select the products that will set their new homes apart from the competition. More than 100,000 people are expected to attend the convention hosted annually by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

PEARL Protected is available through leading building supply distributors and homebuilders nationwide. PEARL is also available to consumers online at www.PEARLprotected.com or via phone at 800.374.5737.
