Rugged LVDT measure position of valves for subsea oil fields.

Press Release Summary:

Able to function submersed in oil at pressures to 7,500 psi, Linear Variable Differential Transformer (LVDT) features digital calibration, digital linearity correction, and temperature compensation. LVDT zero and gain are digitally adjustable in field via serial port to correct for valve tolerances. This 4–20 mA loop transducer is compliant with ISO 13628-6, and 4–20 mA output, CANopen CiA443, or other outputs as well as different mechanical packages are available to meet specific needs.

Original Press Release:

High Accuracy LVDT Transducer for Subsea Valve Position

Measurement Specialties, Inc. (NASDAQ: MEAS), an expert in sensor design and manufacturing, has developed and commercialized an LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) to accurately measure the position of valves for subsea oil fields.

This extremely rugged, highly accurate, 4-20mA loop transducer features digital calibration, digital linearity correction, and temperature compensation using MEAS’ unique signal conditioning technology. To correct for valve tolerances, LVDT zero and gain are digitally adjustable in the field via serial port without the need for special software. The robust transducer is designed to function submersed in oil at pressures up to 7500 PSI. The design qualification was executed in compliance with ISO 13628-6 at MEAS test laboratories in Hampton, Virginia.

This LVDT was designed to our customer’s exacting requirements. MEAS can use the same technology to develop custom LVDTs for other similar applications, with 4-20mA output, CANopen CiA443 or other outputs, and different mechanical packages based on specific customer needs.

MEAS also makes submersible rotary transducers for similar applications, with comparable performance and features, with 4-20mA output and CANopen CiA443, and with up to 359 degree angular range.

If you have an application for this technology and wish to discuss it with our experts, please email your specification and commercial requirements to: Inductive.position-OEM@meas-spec.com.

MEAS offers a full line of catalog position transducers and signal conditioners. Visit us at: http://www.meas-spec.com/position-sensors.aspx. We often customize these products to OEM customer applications. Our equipressure LVDTs (a special option on some of our catalog AC LVDTs such as the MHR Series) operate at up to 20,000 PSI, submersed in oil.
