Harris Corporation Extends Innovative Large Router Line into Medium-Scale Applications with Platinum(TM) MX

New line builds on Platinum(TM) large router's market success

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Sept. 8 // -- Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS) today announced at IBC2006 the introduction of the Platinum(TM) MX line of routing switchers, which extends the innovative Platinum(TM) line of large routers into medium-scale configurations. Designed for cost-effective configurations up to 128x128 in a compact 9RU frame, Platinum(TM) MX delivers the same advanced capabilities and features of the larger 256x256 and 512x512 Platinum routers.

Platinum(TM) MX supports a mix of any signal -- video and audio, analog to HD -- all in the same frame. It also features built-in processing, which allows signals of different types to be internally converted from one format to another automatically as needed. Designed with the same advanced architecture as Platinum(TM) large routers, Platinum(TM) MX provides flexible control capabilities, redundant power supplies, controllers and cross-points, and cost-effective, built-in, expansion potential.

"The Platinum large router line has been a significant success story for Harris since its launch at IBC last year, and we are confident that the Platinum(TM) MX line will be equally well received by customers with mid-size routing requirements," said Tim Thorsteinson, president of the Harris Broadcast Communications Division. "With the introduction of Platinum(TM) MX, we can now offer the innovative technology, high-end features and reliability of our large routing product to customers who don't require a larger router."

Platinum(TM) has enjoyed rapid customer adoption since its worldwide premier at IBC2005. Momentum in Europe has been exceptionally strong, with recent sales for master control room (MCR) applications including ABC News and IMG's mediahouse in the United Kingdom, Reti Radiotelevisive Digitali (RRD) and Media Partners in Italy, Polsat in Poland and Pro TV in Romania.

"We chose the Platinum router as it offered us a powerful solution to address all our routing and distribution needs," said George Iliescu, technology deputy general director, Pro TV. "The Platinum routing switcher's HD capabilities and processing power were key drivers in our decision to purchase this router -- as was its small size, which enabled us to maximize on space within our facility."

About Platinum(TM)

Built for maximum reliability in even the harshest, 24/7 operating environment, Platinum routers are ideal for network, local broadcaster, mobile production, cable, telecom, military, government and corporate applications -- any environment that requires routing of a large number of signals. Platinum(TM) offers redundancy that extends from power and control all the way to complete signal paths. Redundant, load-sharing power supplies and fans, along with front-loading, hot-swappable modules, ensure that a customer's system remains online even during upgrades. For further reliability, Platinum routers scale in increments of eight inputs or outputs, thereby limiting the number of signals affected by any one module, while also enabling cost- effective scaling as customers increase the number of signals.

The Platinum router's distributed control system is unique in the industry in that it requires no separate, centralized controller. Each Platinum(TM) frame features redundant control modules that store configuration information related to that frame in non-volatile memory and contain all the information that frame needs to operate within a system. Platinum(TM) is supported by the Harris Command Control System(TM) (CCS) and SNMP, as well as an extensive line of control panels and applications, including the new NUCLEUS(TM) user- configurable, real-time control panel.
