Robotic Camera Heads offer virtual studio option.

Press Release Summary:

Servo-controlled pan/tilt head models PT-CP-S2, PT-LP-S2, and PT-HP-S2 are controlled via RS-232/422 protocol with direct lens and camera interface connectors for camera and lens control functions. Manual smooth motion is accomplished via velocity servo controls with convergent pan, tilt, zoom, and focus presets. Available with PT-LP-S2 and PT-HP-S2, Virtual Studio Option allows host computer to automatically match virtual background scenes to camera movements.

Telemetrics Enhances Servo Pan/Tilt Camera Robotic Heads with Greater Speed, Accuracy and Virtual Studio Option

Mahwah, NJ (December 23, 2002) - Telemetrics, Inc.'s new line of servo controlled pan/tilt heads deliver more than twice the speed and three times more accuracy than previous models. The new PT-CP-S2, PT-LP-S2 and PT-HP-S2 Servo Pan/Tilt Heads complement the company's comprehensive line of camera robotics systems offering digital servo control. In addition, Telemetrics offers a new Virtual Studio Option (for PT-LP-S2 and PT-HP-S2 only) with precision feedback accuracy to seamlessly integrate into virtual studio applications.

"Our enhanced line of servo controlled pan/tilt heads deliver the speed, control, programming versatility and smooth movements required for demanding broadcast and production applications like centralcasting, which is becoming an increasingly attractive means of increasing remote capabilities while reducing overhead," said Anthony Cuomo, Vice President, Telemetrics, Inc. "We have further extended the range of applications for these units by offering a new Virtual Studio Option that allows the host computer to automatically match virtual background scenes to camera movements."

Telemetrics servo pan/tilt heads can be controlled via RS-232 or RS-422 protocol with direct lens and camera interface connectors for camera and lens control functions. Serial control interfaces are available for most Hitachi, JVC, Panasonic and Sony cameras. A separate camera power connector provides optional power through the pan/tilt heads using the control system power supply. Manual smooth motion is accomplished using velocity servo controls, along with "camera operator" like convergent pan, tilt, zoom and focus presets.

The Servo Pan/Tilt Heads incorporate heavy duty cross roller bearings and precision Swiss DC motors with optical encoders that are isolation mounted for quiet operation. The units provide easy field upgradeable software with flash based technology through the serial port. Both electronic and mechanical end stops are also provided. The units also come complete with an auxiliary connector for direct interface to Telemetrics' Televator Elevating Pedestal, Camera Trolley or Elevating Wall Mount Systems.

The applications for Telemetrics' PT-HP-S2 and PT-LP-S2 Servo Pan/Tilt Heads can be further enhanced with the addition of a Virtual Studio Option that integrates precision positioning encoders into the units and lens. The encoders provide highly precise pan, tilt, zoom and focus position information necessary for virtual studio applications. When the camera tilts or pans and lens zooms or focuses, position information is sent in serial format to the virtual studio computer at field rate. The computer then automatically adjusts the virtual background scene to match the camera's movement.

The PT-CP-S2 is a compact pan/tilt head available with either top or side mounting platforms; the PT-HP-S2 is an "H" shaped pan/tilt head that's available with extended arms and yoke, and an optional slip ring to provide unimpeded and continuous 360 degree panning; and the PT-LP-S2 is an "L" shaped pan/tilt head that is ideal for studio applications using a teleprompter. All three units are currently available.
