RF Oscillator suits radar and instrumentation markets.

Press Release Summary:

Supplied in 2 x 2 x .8 in. package, SR W150 is offered in nominal frequency of 500 MHz, with other frequencies possible from 300-600 MHz. Frequency is stabilized by temperature control and external control voltage, and this ultra low noise source never requires additional calibration. Characteristics include -165 dBc/Hz phase noise at 10 kHz from carrier, -175 dBc/Hz phase noise floor, and stability of 1 ppm in 32-122°F range with target of -22 to +158°F.

Temex Launches New Ultra-Low Phase Noise RF Oscillator for Radar and Instrumentation Markets

Temex, a world leader in the design and manufacturing of time and frequency solutions, has launched a new, small RF oscillator in a 51.5 x 51.5 x 20.5 mm (2 x 2 x .8 in.) package, the SR W150. This revolutionary ultra-low phase noise oscillator is designed for the instrumentation and radar markets.

This technological achievement is the result of 15 years experience in the design and manufacturing of extremely stable frequency sources and unique know-how in SAW resonator. These ULN (Ultra Low Noise) sources satisfy demand for the instrumentation and radar market. "This oscillator satisfies needs expressed by the different ministries of defense in western countries for their new generation radar systems capable of detecting stealthy targets. Test benches should also include this type of very high performance oscillator," says Jean Forget, executive manager of Temex's Defense and Space Activity.

Main characteristics of the new SR W150 oscillator:

This new oscillator is designed to satisfy the needs of the instrumentation and radar markets, and features:

- Frequency: 500 MHz (frequencies possible from 300 MHz to 600 MHz)

- Lower phase noise at 10 kHz from the carrier: -165 dBc/Hz

- Phase noise floor: -175dBc/Hz

- Frequency stabilized by temperature control and external control voltage

- Dimensions: 51.5 x 51.5 x 20.5 mm (2 x 2 x .8 in.)

- Stability: 1 ppm in the 0° - 50°C (32° - 122°F) temperature range with a target of -30° to + 70°C (-22° to +158°F)

-Aging: 1 ppm / year

- Once adjusted in the factory, the oscillator never requires any additional calibration.

An oscillator already tested by the principal players in the European radar market

Several prototypes sent to major players in the instrumentation and radar market have achieved very satisfactory and even unexpected results. With the development of ultra-stable frequency sources at 500 MHz, a reference for L band and X band sources, Temex confirms its development strategy in the fields of very high performance oscillators.

Availability
Prototypes of the SR W150 500 MHz oscillator with the thermostat-controlled SAW resonator (OCVCSO: Oven Controlled Voltage Controlled Saw Oscillator) will be available for system validations in the second quarter of 2007.
