QUALCOMM Announces Industry's First Single-Chip, RF CMOS Transceiver with Integrated Receive Diversity and GPS for CDMA2000 Networks



- New Transceiver Brings Cost-Effective Network Capacity, Power Consumption and Performance Enhancements to Slim CDMA2000 Handsets -

LAS VEGAS, CTIA Booth #2047, Hall C4/C5, April 5 /-- QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ:QCOM), a leading developer and innovator of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced the industry's first single-chip CDMA2000(R) radio frequency (RF) complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) transceiver with integrated receive diversity and simultaneous-GPS. The RTR6500(TM) transceiver's integration of receive diversity improves network capacity, and its integrated support for simultaneous-GPS provides a cost-effective way to meet the demand for location services while enabling handsets to feature a slim form factor. The RTR6500 transceiver also features IntelliCeiver(TM) technology for dynamic power optimization, reducing overall power consumption to increase overall talk and standby time.

The RTR6500 transceiver integrates receive diversity to enable increases of up to 50 percent in network capacity and of up to 100 percent in average CDMA2000 1xEV-DO data throughput at the cell edge. The transceiver's integration of GPS functionality enables widespread consumer support for location and emergency services by largely eliminating the cost for expensive discrete components through direct integration. The IntelliCeiver feature monitors the signal environment and continuously provides power optimization by reducing the IC power consumption when higher power is not needed. The power savings translate into increased talk time and enhanced overall battery life.

The RTR6500 transceiver supports the following bands:
o 800 MHz (cellular band classes 0 and 3)
o 1800 MHz (KPCS band)
o 1900 MHz (PCS band including band class 14)
o 2100 MHz (IMT band)

The RTR6500 transceiver is implemented in a cost-effective 0.18 micron RF CMOS process technology to further improve talk and standby time and enhance performance. Innovative circuit design and topology further reduces handset bill-of-materials costs by eliminating external passive components, such as select surface acoustic wave filters, through integration and design architecture. A compact 8mm x 8mm QFN package enables slim, sleek form factors for mobile handsets by replacing existing two-chip CDMA receive diversity RF chipset solutions.

Sampling is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2006 as part of the complete Mobile Station Modem(TM) (MSM(TM)) MSM6800(TM) and MSM7500(TM) chipset solutions. Other future MSM combinations are also anticipated to enable a wide range of handsets for multiple market tiers.
