PV Module Durability Tester offers full-scale functionality.

Press Release Summary:

Utilizing optimal environmental chamber and xenon solar simulation technologies, XR360 enables accelerated exposure testing of complete PV modules up to 1.9 x 1.4 m in size. Solution can reproduce synergistic effects of weathering factors in end-use conditions and is designed to run IEC tests not requiring light, such as the damp heat test. In addition to full climatic functionality, features include chamber equipped with 4 water-cooled, long-arc lamps.

Atlas® Introduces the XR360 for full scale PV module durability testing

September 29, 2009, (Chicago, IL) - Atlas Material Testing Technology is excited to introduce the latest technology for accelerated exposure testing of complete PV modules. The XR360 integrates the recent developments in environmental chamber and xenon solar simulation technology. It is the successor to the XR260 which has been extensively used for PV Testing by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), for example.

All materials age and lose some functionality over time. Thus the need for testing substrates, encapsulants, coatings, metals, glass, sealants, and components like cables, holders, and junction boxes has long been recognized and is typically accomplished in benchmark outdoor testing environments and laboratory weathering instruments. These tests are normally performed according to ISO, ASTM, and other industry consensus standard test methods. Just as with material coupons and smaller components, full PV modules should be tested under complete and appropriate conditions to reproduce the synergistic effects of the factors of weathering in end-use conditions.

The XR360 represents the largest production offering, capable of testing modules up to 1.9 m x 1.4 m, a capacity that covers more than 90% of the current production modules. Available in three different models depending on your testing needs.

Notable Features of the XR360:

Chamber is equipped with four water-cooled high-performance long-arc lamps
Full climatic functionality

Expanded utility that is designed to run IEC tests not requiring light, such as the damp heat test
