Programmable Comparative Gauge has parallel kinematic structure.

Press Release Summary:

Able to be programmed for multiple parts and re-programmed in minutes, Equator(TM) enables high-speed comparative gaging for inspection of high-volume manufactured parts. Software-programmable solution can switch between different parts in seconds, and repeatable gaging technology utilizes comparison of production parts to reference master part. Re-mastering is as quick as measuring production part and immediately compensates for any change in thermal conditions on shop floor.

Process Control Advances to New Level at imX with Introduction of Unique Equator(TM) Programmable Gaging System

The new patented Equator(TM) gaging system cuts purchase, maintenance and fixture costs, can be programmed for multiple parts and re-programmed in minutes for part changes.

Renishaw takes process control to a new level at the imX show (Las Vegas Convention Center, 9/12-14) with demonstrations of the revolutionary Equator(TM) programmable comparative gage, the company's game-changing alternative to traditional hard gages. The patented low-cost Equator, unique in construction and method of operation, enables high-speed comparative gaging for inspection of high-volume manufactured parts. The software-programmable system can switch between different parts in seconds, perfect for flexible manufacturing.

Equator's highly repeatable gaging technology utilizes the proven method of comparison of production parts to a reference master part. Re-mastering is as quick as measuring a production part and immediately compensates for any change in thermal conditions on the shop floor.

Based on a scaleable and adaptable "parallel kinematic" structure, Equator allows high speed form scanning and rapid moves between features, while retaining stiffness that delivers impressive point-to-point repeatability. It has been developed and proven on the shop-floor in collaboration with industry leaders in the automotive, aerospace and medical sectors. The result is a lightweight, fast and highly repeatable gage that operators can use with "push-button" simplicity.

Experts from Renishaw will demonstrate Equator's role in a four-step process control program that also utilizes calibration tools, machine-tool probes and CMM probes to improve labor utilization, scrap, inspection times and OEE, while moving closer to "first part/good part" machining.
