Industry's Lowest Power Upstream Amplifier for DOCSIS 3.0

CATV upstream amplifier meets DOCSIS 3.0 requirements, dissipates only 1.25W

SUNNYVALE, CA - July 2, 2009 - Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX3518, a DOCSIS® 3.0 upstream amplifier that combines the industry's lowest power consumption with optimal distortion performance. This device consumes a mere 1.25W when configured for 31dB of gain and +64dBmVOUT. Moreover, it consumes an ultra-low 25mW in transmit-disabled mode, while achieving a low, 10dB noise figure and 60dBc of harmonic distortion. The MAX3518's industry-low power consumption reduces power-supply requirements and extends battery life in battery-backup systems, thus making it ideal for cable and VoIP modems.

The MAX3518 operates from a single 5.0V supply that connects to a single pin on the device, greatly simplifying circuit board routing and reducing the required number of external components to only one balun and five 1nF capacitors. Simply add a standard anti-aliasing filter to obtain a complete upstream solution.

The MAX3518 is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range, and is available in a 5mm x 5mm, 20-pin TQFN package. Prices start at $5.00 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits and reference designs are available.
