BI Technologies Develops Low Profile Single Turn Precision Potentiometer for Control Applications

Conductive potentiometer utilizes advanced bushing system...

FULLERTON, CA (August 21, 2006) - Providing design engineers with one of the lowest profile precision potentiometers in the industry, TT electronics BI Technologies Electronic Components Division has developed a single turn conductive plastic potentiometer with a 22mm diameter. The 6130 Series devices include two types of potentiometers, the 6137 and 6138 types, both of which share the same mechanical outline and include a standard 0.25 inch slotted shaft and 0.375 inch bushing.

According to Barbara Wiesinger, director of product development for BI Technologies Electronic Components Division, the 6130 Series precision potentiometers are the lowest profile precision pots on the market. "Constant reduction of overall system size continues to be a major goal for design engineers," Wiesinger said. "With a thickness of .425 inches from the mounting surface to the end of the terminals, the low profile design allows manufacturers to fit this potentiometer into smaller areas."

The 6130 Series devices utilize an advanced bushing system, making the potentiometers ideal for industrial control applications including medical equipment, welding equipment, crane controls, joysticks, and position sensing in heavy equipment.

The 6137 potentiometer with standard mounting configuration is capable of 5 million shaft revolutions, making it ideal for closed loop control systems. The 6138 potentiometer is suitable for applications involving shaft side load or for designs with severe mounting restrictions where the potentiometer does not have a stable mounting surface. The 6138 device has a lifespan of 10 million shaft revolutions, and can withstand a side load of one pound.

Both the 6137 and 6138 potentiometers feature a standard resistance range of 1KW to 100KW and an independent linearity of ±1%. Upon request, the potentiometers are available with center tap, flatted shaft and stops.

BI Technologies will also produce devices outside these specifications to meet customer requirements. All 6130 Series devices are RoHS-compliant.

Typical pricing for the 6137 potentiometers is $4.00-6.00 each, while the 6138 model ranges from $5.00-7.00 each, depending on quantity. Stock is available immediately, with lead times of 6 to 8 weeks for larger volumes.
