FLEXcon Announces DPM® LSE(TM) for Smooth & Textured Low Surface Energy Labeling Applications

New Label Stock Provides Bonding for After Market Graphics, Durable Labeling and Automotive Markets

Spencer, Mass. – FLEXcon, an innovator in adhesive coating and laminating, today announced the availability of the DPM® LSE™, a new line of 2 mil polyester films for low surface energy durable labeling applications. DPM® LSE™ utilizes our L-778 adhesive, a high-performance adhesive that permanently adheres to low surface energy surfaces such as thermoplastic polyolefins (TPO), painted metal, powder coated paint, polycarbonate and fiberglass.

FLEXcon’s L-788 addresses one of the biggest challenges end users face when bonding to low surface energy plastics, specifically TPO, because these surfaces often require a pre-treatment for permanent adhesion. L-778 adhesive is unique in that it permanently adheres to TPO surfaces without the use of pre-application primers or flame treatment. The adhesive requires only an IPA/water wash before application to form a permanent bond, saving OEMs time and money. The solution will benefit the auto/trucking after market, outdoor power equipment and power tool, recreational vehicle and appliance markets. DPM® LSE™ products are offered with a coatweight of either a 1 or 2 mils of L-778 adhesive.

“When working with low surface energy materials, it is important to match the durability of the manufactured goods with an adhesive that meets the requirements of the finished product,” said John Bennett, Vice President, Product Identification, FLEXcon. “L-778 adheres to smooth and textured TPO low surface energy surfaces alike and DPM® LSE™ products can be customized to comply with different converting, assembly and end-use requirements, meeting our customers’ needs.”

DPM® LSE™ is also more universally printable than other thermal transfer printable products, allowing for the use of UV & solvent screen; UV, solvent & water flexo; and UV inkjet for static information, followed by TTR for variable information. The topcoat is compatible with most resin and wax/resin thermal transfer ribbons.

Roll form products are made with PCW 50K-8, a super calendared kraft release liner manufactured from up to 30 percent% post-consumer waste. It offers equivalent functional performance to standard 50K release liners and is available exclusively from FLEXcon. Sheet form products utilize a 94 lb. premium grade moisture stable polycoated release liner.

DPM® LSE™ products perform within a wide service temperature range of 40°F to 302°F (-40°C to 150°C). In addition, all products are UL-recognized and certified with inks from four leading manufacturers: Flint Group, Sun Chemical, Nazdar and Actega WIT. UL customers can immediately adopt and start printing UL-compliant labels on DPM® LSE™.
