Original Press Release:

Laser Design Offers Rapidform Plug-in for Direct Scan to Software

(November 24, 2008; MINNEAPOLIS, MN) - Laser Design Inc., the leading supplier of 3D laser scanners for more than 20 years, announced that the Rapidform liveScan(TM) plug-in is now available for Laser Design's line of Faro portable 3D laser scanners.

This is great news for customers and customers-to-be who have a portable Laser Design scanner with Rapidform software. The plug-in allows them to scan directly into the Rapidform software package providing enhanced graphical feedback of the scanning process as data is collected.

When using the Rapidform plug-in while gathering scan data from the Faro arm, the user literally sees the point cloud being captured from the part in real-time as the scanning process proceeds. The screen updates to the user's viewing angle as the arm is moved around the part. This feedback allows the user to adjust the scanning speed and approach as well as showing areas where the user needs to go back and gather more data which greatly improves the efficiency of the scanning process. The potential time savings are significant, which translates into faster times to market and an improved bottom line.

Laser Design, Inc. has been the leading supplier of ultra-precise, 3D laser scanning systems and services for over 20 years. Used for capturing the 3D shape of objects with complex geometries and free-form surfaces, Laser Design's Surveyor line of automated and portable scanning systems are ideal for 3D scanning applications involving inspection and reverse engineering of complex shaped plastic and metal parts. The company's patented laser line-probe technology dramatically reduces scanning time by collecting data substantially faster and more accurately than conventional metrology technologies. Laser Design integrates Geomagic and Rapidform software with its laser scanners to provide complete solutions for reverse engineering and inspection applications.

Headquartered in Minneapolis, the company has Regional Technical Services and Support Centers in Seattle and Detroit, and distributors throughout Europe, Asia, and North America. Laser Design also operates GKS Inspection Services (www.GKS.com), an in-house service bureau division offering complete 3D scanning, reverse engineering, and dimensional inspection services.
