WIKA Instrument Offers Lead-Free Pressure Gauges for Drinking Water Systems

The Only Pressure Gauge with NSF International Certification

ATLANTA – WIKA Instrument, LP (WIKA) has introduced lead-free pressure gauges that comply with the U.S. Safe Drinking Water Act by having wetted parts with lead content less than or equal to 0.25%. The WIKA products also meet the lead content requirements for lead-free plumbing as defined by California, Vermont, Maryland, and Louisiana state laws. By both standards, these gauges are safe for applications where water is anticipated to be consumed by humans.

WIKA offers the only third party lead-free pressure gauges in the industry that comply with all of the following NSF/ANSI standards:

--  NSF/ANSI Standard 61: Product has been certified as meeting leachate requirements for all contaminants including metals and non-metals,

--  NSF/ANSI Standard 372: Product has been certified as meeting a weighted average lead content of less than or equal to 0.25%; and

--  NSF/ANSI Standard 61 Annex G: Product has been certified as meeting leachate requirements for all contaminants and certified as meeting a weighted average lead content of less than or equal to 0.25%.

"WIKA has been working with NSF for years to ensure our products meet the safety standards for drinking water," said WIKA Product Manager Hardy Orzikowski. "Seeing the NSF label on a gauge guarantees the customer that the product has been tested and meets the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act."

All WIKA drinking water gauges are assembled in the USA using a strict quality control process to ensure that all gauges are manufactured with "lead free" components as defined in the Safe Drinking Water Act. Also, as part of WIKA's product certification, NSF audits the company's Lawrenceville, Ga. manufacturing facility on an annual basis.

Under the Safe Drinking Water Act there is no single way to show that a product is "Lead free," thus making it difficult for installers to prove compliance. Consumers can increase their level of confidence by purchasing products with a mark indicating that they have been certified by an accredited third-party certification body as meeting the new lead-free requirement. All WIKA drinking water gauges have the NSF mark on the dial, along with the test standard. The socket is even stamped with the universal "no lead" symbol so consumers know the product was made from only lead-free materials.
