Optically Coupled Isolators suit medical/industrial/office equipment.

Press Release Summary:

UL-approved OPI120 and OPI123 Series, rated to 15 kV, have hermetically sealed IR LED packaged with phototransistor or photodarlington output. Designed to provide high-voltage isolation between input and output as well as electrical isolation in dirty environments, solutions feature LED with peak wavelength of 890 or 935 nm, forward dc current of 150 mW, and power dissipation rating of 200 mW. Depending on series, minimum collector-emitter voltage for output photosensor is 25 or 20 V.

OPTEK Develops High Voltage Optically Coupled Isolators for Medical, Industrial, Office Equipment

UL-approved isolators feature electrical isolation for contaminated environments...

DALLAS, TX (October 31, 2007) - Providing design engineers a variety of devices with extended electrical isolation, TT electronics OPTEK Technology has developed a series of optically coupled isolators. Designated the OPI120 Series and OPI123 Series, the isolators are rated to 15kV and feature a hermetically sealed infrared LED packaged with either a phototransistor or photodarlington output.

"With the extension of the electrical isolation of the devices, we have made them suitable for a greater range of applications," said Alan Bennett, vice president of sales and marketing for OPTEK Technology. "By making the isolators available with the choice of outputs and other electrical options, we are able to provide customers with the versatility they need for any number of high voltage and contaminated environments."

The optically coupled isolators are ideal for high voltage isolation between input and output as well as electrical isolation in dirty environments, including industrial, medical and office equipment.

The isolators are sealed in a pre-cast opaque housing with an optically transmissive path between the LED and the photosensor. The OPI120 and OPI123 isolators feature an LED with a peak wavelength of 890nm or 935nm, a forward DC current of 150mW and power dissipation rating of 200mW. Minimum collector-emitter voltages for the output photosensor are 25V and 20V, respectively, with an emitter-collector voltage of 5V and power dissipation of 250mW. Operating temperature ranges from -55°C to +100°C.

The optoisolators are UL approved under file #E58730. OPTEK will also produce devices to meet specific customer requirements. Custom electrical specifications, wire and cabling, and connectors are available. TX and TXV-level processing is also available.

Typical pricing for the isolators ranges from $7.43 to $8.08 each in quantities of 1,000. Production quantity lead times, if stock is not available, are from 6 to 8 weeks.
