Optical Fiber Cleaver handles fibers up to 1.25 mm diameter.

Press Release Summary:

Using tension and scribe technology, Model LDC-400 produces precise, consistent cleaves with mirror-quality end-face finishes. Automated unit can produce flat and angled cleaves up to 15° on fibers ranging from 80 microns to 1.25 mm in diameter. It features programmable cleave tension, rotation angle, and scribe conditions, as well as special processes for cleaving photonic crystal fiber, polarization maintaining fibers, or capillary laser systems.

Vytran Introduces Automated Cleaver for Large Diameter Optical Fibers

"LDC-400" to be featured at CLEO: Expo 2010 Booth #1324 May 18-20 in San Jose, California

Morganville, New Jersey - Vytran, an innovative supplier of optical fiber processing solutions, introduces the "LDC-400"-an automated optical fiber cleaver that can be used to produce flat and angled cleaves on fibers ranging from 80 microns to 1.25 mm in diameter. A versatile precision tool, LDC-400 is designed to cleave standard and specialty fibers for telecommunications, fiber laser, sensing, medical, research and aerospace and defense applications. Vytran will debut the LDC-400 at its Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO): Expo 2010 booth (#1324) from May 18-20 in San Jose, California.

"Our new LDC-400 fiber cleaver is based on the proven technology and robust design of our successful LDC-200 series of fiber cleavers-a product line that we've shipped for many years," said Jean-Michel Pelaprat, Vytran president and CEO. "But the LDC-400 has a number of key enhancements. It allows users to cleave large diameter optical fibers up to 1.25 mm, which is particularly important for many early stage applications in the fiber laser and medical device markets. It also features increased reliability and ease of use over prior LDC models."

LDC-400 cleavers use tension and scribe technology to produce precise, consistent cleaves with mirror-quality end-face finishes. They can be configured to produce angle cleaves up to 15 degrees. LDC-400 systems feature programmable cleave tension, rotation angle and scribe conditions, and include special processes for cleaving photonic crystal fiber, polarization maintaining (PM) fibers or capillary tubing.
They can also be used to cleave many non-circular fibers typically used in fiber laser systems.

Vytran's complete product lineup includes fully integrated workstations and discrete process tools for optical fiber stripping, cleaning, cleaving, splicing, recoating and testing. At its CLEO: Expo booth, Vytran will show its full range of optical fiber processing products for research, sensing and medical applications, including its GPX-3000 series of glass processors, PTR-200 series of fiber recoaters and proof testers, and the FFS-2000 splicing workstation. For added convenience, attendees may schedule booth appointments through Jim Stathis, Vytran business development manager. He can be reached at jstathis@vytran.com.
