Online Transformer Monitor improves fleet reliability.

Press Release Summary:

Serveron® Model TM1(TM) provides continuous dissolved gas analysis (DGA) monitoring of hydrogen gas in insulating oil along with alarm capability needed to maintain reliability of distribution transformers. Programmability allows alarm to be based on ppm levels and/or Rate of Change (ROC), warning operators of potentially disruptive transformer faults and pending failures. Optional moisture-in-oil and oil temperature measurements will also be available.

BPL Global Launches Revolutionary Monitor for Distribution Transformers

For the first time, the benefits of on-line condition monitoring can be realized across the entire power transformer fleet.

PITTSBURGH -- BPL Global®, Ltd. (BPLG), a smart grid technology company dedicated to leading the transformation of energy efficiency and reliability, announced today a revolutionary solution for improving distribution transformer fleet reliability. The Serveron® Model TM1(TM) On-line Transformer Monitor is the most economical transformer dissolved gas analysis (DGA) condition warning solution ever offered. It provides continuous DGA monitoring of hydrogen gas along with the accurate and timely alarm capability needed to maintain reliability of distribution transformers.

The latest addition to the market leading family of transformer monitors, the Serveron Model TM1 On-line Transformer Monitor offers a breakthrough price/performance point in on-line DGA. For the first time, the benefits of on-line condition monitoring can be realized across the distribution transformer fleet. Hydrogen gas buildup in transformer oil is an early indicator of incipient transformer faults. The Serveron TM1 continuously monitors hydrogen PPM Levels and can be programmed to alarm based on PPM Levels and/or Rate of Change (ROC), warning operators of potentially disruptive transformer faults and pending failures. Optional moisture-in-oil and oil temperature measurements will also be available.

"The Serveron Model TM1 is the result of our global experience and innovation in transformer monitoring," said Pete Londa, acting CEO of BPLG. "It reinforces our leadership position in the market by providing our customers with best-in-class solutions to protect the massive investments in their transformer fleets."

Now with three models, the Serveron® TM8(TM), TM3(TM) and TM1(TM), BPLG offers electric utilities transformer monitoring solutions across the entire power transformer fleet. The TM Series(TM) of transformer monitors measure the levels of dissolved gases in the insulating oil of power transformers. By accurately detecting trace levels of these gases, the monitors assist utilities in achieving the highest levels of safe power transformer operation. Utilities benefit by receiving more timely information on conditions that could lead to catastrophic failure. Continuous oil sampling and superior accuracy by the Serveron TM Series Monitors significantly reduce the likelihood of unplanned outages, lower maintenance costs and defer capital expenditures by extending transformer life.

"Our electric utility customers around the world are faced with increasing expectations for reliability and power quality," said Dermot O'Leary, Executive VP and General Manager, Substation Solutions for BPLG. "The Serveron Model TM1 is a groundbreaking solution at a price point that enables utilities to broadly adopt monitoring across the distribution transformer fleet. Our innovative technology for the TM1 eliminates membranes, sensor replacement and consumables for a highly reliable monitor with a low cost of ownership."

Reliable energy flow is paramount and transformers are critical, and some of the costliest, assets in the electrical network. Dissolved Gas Analysis (DGA) of transformer oil is the best indicator of a transformer's overall condition. In addition to the Serveron TM Series On-line Transformer Monitors, BPLG provides software and services that offer simple yet powerful analytical tools for data presentation and analysis, as well as transformer monitor control. The recorded on-line data is populated in diagnostic tools that deliver new and immediate insights for possible fault conditions.

Delivering solutions to many of the largest utilities in the US, Europe and China, BPLG is a leading provider of smart grid technology from substations through customer premises. BPLG's substation solutions include our market leading transformer monitors as well as substation automation. The company's distribution solutions integrate management of distributed energy resources (DER) including customer load, energy storage, renewables and distributed generation.
