Lockheed Martin Introduces Purevision(TM) Multiple OCR Solution

SAN DIEGO - April 22, 2002 - Lockheed Martin today announced the availability of PureVISION(TM) camera system, a multiple Optical Character Recognition (OCR) solution that will provide one of the highest read rates in the mailing industry. A PureVISION system is based on the industry's current leading Lockheed Martin OCR, complemented by recognition technologies from companies such as Siemens Dematic, RAF Technology and Parascript LLC.

The PureVISION product announcement was made during the National Postal Forum in San Diego.

According to Cynthia Sailar, vice president of Enterprise Mail for Lockheed Martin Distribution Technologies, "The PureVISION camera system is the most significant improvement yet in regards to OCR technology for the mailing industry. The PureVISION system is designed to conform to a specific company's mail stream to achieve the highest possible read rates. Our customers are excited about PureVISION technology because they, in some cases, will see double-digit read rate improvements."

PureVISION software is a Microsoft Windows(R) NT-based solution that is fully scalable to run on all of Lockheed Martin's mail transports and reads at various system speeds up to 36,000 mail pieces per hour. Lockheed Martin offers two models of high-speed outgoing letter sorters, a mixed mail sorter for both outgoing and incoming applications and a reject processor. The initial release of the PureVISION camera system adds RAF Technology to the base Lockheed Martin OCR and is available now on all Lockheed Martin platforms. Customers will see an immediate and dramatic improvement in first-pass read rates. RAF's Argosy Post TM) PLUS software is the preeminent system available for reading difficult addresses in a fast and cost effective way.

Lockheed Martin will make Siemens Dematic's READ 1000 and Parascript recognition technologies available by the end of the second quarter this year on the new PureVISION OCR solution. The addition of Siemens Dematic's highly regarded READ 1000 OCR will add more synergistic benefits for Lockheed Martin's PureVISION camera system customers.

Parascript's data capture software recognizes challenging character types, including cursive and handprint, improving recognition rates for operations with even moderate volumes of such difficult mail.

The PureVISION system will also support the addition of Lockheed Martin's @CAM(TM) camera system, selected by the United States Postal Service for its Wide Field of View letter camera solution for the future. The @CAM camera system will be available to the commercial market early in the third quarter of 2002.
