Nanocomposite delivers extreme fracture toughness.

Press Release Summary:

Toughened with carbon nanotubes, Arovex® HT features Kentera™ technology, which acts as bridge between carbon nanomaterials and resin matrix. Kentera effectively disperses nanomaterials, allowing their mechanical property advantages to transfer loads from resin matrix to fibers, resulting in stronger products. Prepreg optimizes durability of carbon fiber products found in sporting goods, aerospace, automotive, and marine industries.

Zyvex Technologies Announces Second-Generation Nanocomposite: Arovex® HT

Using carbon nanotubes, Arovex HT is a highly toughened prepreg that improves the durability of carbon fiber products

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Zyvex Technologies is introducing a second-generation nanocomposite highly toughened with carbon nanotubes called Arovex® HT. Building on the broad mechanical property advantages of the first generation of nanocomposites developed by Zyvex, Arovex HT was designed for customers of any industry with products that can't afford to fail.

Delivering extreme fracture toughness with over a 200% improvement compared to traditional reinforced composite materials, Arovex HT is the next leader in composite durability.

Customers have already found success deploying the first generation of Arovex in the sporting goods, aerospace, automotive and marine industries, illustrating the commercialized scale and usefulness of nanocomposites.

"Zyvex delivers top-notch technology that helps give our products an advantage in the marketplace," according to Jerry Prochko, Managing Director at C-12 Lacrosse. Incorporating Arovex into their lacrosse shafts allowed not only for stronger and lighter sticks, but also allowed for faster shots and better passes, ball control and temperature resistance. In a C-12 marketing campaign, their Arovex-based carbon fiber lacrosse shafts, which weigh only 1.5 lbs, showed off a 270lb deadlift without breaking.

The key to the enhanced performance of Arovex HT is patented Kentera(TM) technology, which acts as the bridge between carbon nanomaterials and the resin matrix. Typically, nanomaterials agglomerate, or group together, when they are put into a product. Kentera effectively disperses the nanomaterials, allowing their mechanical property advantages to transfer loads from the resin matrix to the fibers, resulting in tougher, stronger products.

Lance Criscuolo, President of Zyvex Technologies, points out that it takes time for science to make its way into commercially available products. "New materials technology is far from the rapid pace 'app' innovation in consumer electronics and other industries. Material developments from the early 2000's, like carbon nanotubes, are only now seeing success after requiring years of testing, evaluation, supply chain certification, and business development. Zyvex is well positioned for a future of nanomaterials, but we're only now beginning to see the impact of a decades old technology like the carbon nanotube."

Current North American customers are evaluating Arovex HT for new infrastructure applications and Asian customers are considering Arovex HT for new generations of consumer electronic cases. North American customers can contact Zyvex directly and customers in Asia can contact our distributor, Evermore Trading, for more information.
