Multipurpose Additive increases film blocking efficiency.

Press Release Summary:

Ampacet 102765 increases blocking efficiency in thin-gauge olefin films while reducing haze and coefficient of friction. Combining mineral and organic antiblocking agents, multifunctional additive does not affect sealability and can act as release agent in packaging for products where film must separate from contents. Product is targeted at high-clarity, flexible packaging used in food bag sealant layers, dry cleaner garment bags, and shrink film.

Original Press Release:

New Multipurpose Antiblock Nearly Doubles Film Blocking Efficiency; Reduces Slip and Haze 40%

Tarrytown, NY, March 14, 2005 - Ampacet has introduced a novel, multifunctional antiblock additive that increases blocking efficiency 47 percent in thin-gauge olefin films compared to a standard antiblock, while reducing both haze and coefficient of friction about 40 percent. The new product, Ampacet 102765, thus reduces the need for antiblock and slip addition even as it increases film clarity.

Ampacet 102765 is targeted at high-clarity, flexible packaging made from such polymers as linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE), metallocene LLDPE and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer used in food bag sealant layers, dry cleaner garment bags, shrink film and other applications.

It combines mineral and organic antiblocking agents and is far more effective at lowering blocking force than either one alone. The organic antiblock used involves a novel chemical species optimized for use with the diatomaceous earth it is mated with.

"Ampacet 102765 moves film antiblocks to a new level," says Shawn Lucas, Manager Analytical Lab - R&D Center. "It has a dual action: its mineral particles create a physical gap between films that lower blocking, while the chemical migrates to the surface between particles to limit interfilm adhesion further."

"The additive gives film producers an economical way to help hold blocking, coefficient of friction and haze to manageable levels. Our tests show it does not affect sealability and can act as a release agent in packaging for cheese, candy and other products where a film must separate from the contents. We've also found that it is less abrasive than standard antiblocks and that it reduces the potential for gel formation and oxidation catalyzed by mineral impurities."

When Ampacet 102765 was compared to a widely used blocking agent at a concentration of 4500 ppm, it reduced blocking force to 35 gm from 66 gm, haze to 5.5 percent from 9.25 percent, and kinetic coefficient of friction to 0.3 from 0.5.
