ELMOS: High Performance IC for PIR (Passive Infrared) Alarm Systems

E910.92 offers secure detection due to manifold configuration options Dortmund: With the E910.92 ELMOS offers a high-performance semiconductor for use in PIR alarm systems/motion sensors. The ELMOS ASSP combines all required functions for a single-chip passive infrared (PIR) motion detector. The integrated circuit provides a relay and an LED output for interfacing an alarm system.

The signal processing of alarm systems must guarantee reliable detection while at the same time minimizing the probability of false alarms. For this purpose the E910.92A comes with an optimized readout algorithm which can be adapted to the specific ambient conditions over a broad range. If the preset threshold is exceeded at the input, an internal alarm impulse is generated. The IC offers the options to issue an alarm signal either with every impulse or after the detection of several impulses in a row. The alarm signal is generated at the output dependent on the preset number of alarm impulses within a defined time window (True-Roll(TM) window).

One or two PIR sensors can be connected directly to the PIR inputs. The pull-down resistors and DC decoupling circuitry are integrated on-chip. Internally, the PIR sensor signal is converted into a 15 bit digital value.

The parameters for sensitivity (range, threshold), pulse count (alarm criteria), and timing are set by connecting the corresponding inputs to VDD, VSS or leaving them open. The voltage level on the temperature compensation input is converted into a digital value with 4 bit resolution. Due to wiring with a temperature-dependent pontiometer, a change of the response sensivity can be realized according to the ambient temperature.

All signal processing is performed digitally. Therefore parameter displacements due to the aging of discrete components are made impossible.

The chip's supply voltage range is 4.8 V to 48 V, the operating temperature ranges from -40°C to +85°C.

The E910.92 is available in an SOIC20 package.
