Modular Mounter utilizes head capable of lead clinching, tamping.

Press Release Summary:

Sigma G5S employs multifunction head with lead clinching capability that uses side-mounted lighting and machine vision to identify and locate through-hole component leads. During placement/insertion, clinching prevents inserted component from falling out or becoming dislodged prior to soldering. Tamping ensures through-hole component is properly placed, inserted, and seated. Head can be programmed to tamp one end and then other for even, snug fit with up to 10 Kg pressure if required.

HITACHI Mounter's Multi-Function Head Now Offers Lead Clinching and Tamping Functionalities; Showing at APEX 2014

Dallas, TX, USA – HITACHI's Sigma G5S modular mounter's Multi-function head now features lead clinching and tamping functionalities. Its lead clinching capability uses side-mounted lighting and machine vision to identify and precisely locate through-hole component leads. During placement/insertion, clinching simultaneously takes place to prevent the inserted component from falling out or becoming dislodged prior to soldering.

The head also provides tamping functionality to ensure that a through-hole component is properly placed, inserted, and seated. This function is particularly helpful with long card edge connectors. The head will pick up the component with the Gripper nozzle, and with vision location assistance, will place/insert the connector via insertion pressure on the center of the component. The head can be programmed to tamp one end, then the other, for an even, snug fit, with up to 10Kg pressure if needed. The Multi-function head can also utilize an array of mechanical grip nozzles to automate other manual tasks.

Hitachi High Technologies America will be exhibiting the lead clinching and tamping functionality with the new G5S Mounter in Booth #448, March 25 – 27 at IPC/APEX 2014 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Convention Center in Las Vegas.
