miSmartBuffer Devices can generate multiple frequencies using per output dividers.

Press Release Summary:

Capable of reducing complexity in designing clock trees, ZL40250-ZL40253 buffers can generate native signal types such as LVDS, LVPECL, HCSL, HSTL and CMOS. Unit allows devices to interface to other components on the board without level shifters or termination components. Product features CMOS output voltages from 1.5 volts (V) to 3.3V and does not require multiple regulators.

Original Press Release:

Microsemi Announces New Family of Smart Buffers Reducing Complexity by Offering an Innovative Approach to Clock Tree Designs

Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today announced the availability of its ZL40250-ZL40253 miSmartBuffer™ devices. The highly flexible feature rich products reduce the complexity of designing clock trees for communications, enterprise switches and data center equipment by offering an innovative approach to traditional buffers.

"The introduction of our new miSmartBuffer devices provide a competitive advantage to Microsemi's robust clock management buffer portfolio and enhances our reach within the communications, enterprise and data center markets," said Maamoun Seido, vice president and business unit manager of Microsemi's timing products. "The unique feature set of these devices and the ability to configure their outputs enabling designers to create larger clock trees when combining these buffers with Microsemi's miClockSynth™ clock synthesizers or simplify small clock trees with a single miSmartBuffer, leading to significant cost savings."

Microsemi's ZL40250-ZL40253 miSmartBuffer family is differentiated from industry traditional fanout buffers with compelling features including generating multiple frequencies using per output dividers. Also, the outputs of miSmartBuffers can be configured to generate native signal types such as LVDS, LVPECL, HCSL, HSTL and CMOS, allowing the devices to easily interface to other components on the board with no need for level shifters or termination components.

In addition, the devices' outputs are grouped in six output supply voltage banks with CMOS output voltages from 1.5 volts (V) to 3.3V, eliminating the need for multiple regulators and simplifying the design. The three, six or 10-differential output programmable fanout buffers' per output control provides designers with flexibility to control signals as well as the ability to create factory pre-programmed devices to ensure clock availability and proper system bring-up for different applications.

According to market research firm IHS in its "Enterprise and Service Provider Routers Q32016" report, routers for enterprise and service providers, a $16 billion market in 2016, will see the number of ports grow by 5.7 percent year over year till 2020. Microsemi's new devices cater to this market growth by improving design reliability while reducing bill of materials (BOM) costs and simplifying design for a wide variety of applications including enterprise switches and routers, PCIe, servers, storage systems, wireless base stations, wireless backhaul, access infrastructure and 1G/2.5G/10G/25G/40G/25G/100G Ethernet. Product Availability Microsemi's ZL40250-ZL40253 miSmartBufferTM devices are available now.
