Instron® Offers Its Microtorsion Tester

Instron®, a leading provider of testing equipment designed to evaluate mechanical properties of materials and components, announces its 55MT MicroTorsion. The 55MT is ideally suited to provide torsion testing for materials and parts that must withstand constant twisting and wrenching, such as fasteners, wire, electronic assemblies, medical devices and biomaterials.

Instron's 55MT Series, offered in 220 N-m (2000 in-lb) and 20 N-m (177 in-lb) designs, can be used to simulate a variety of real world applications where torsional stresses are prevalent. It is used to test switches in the automotive industry, wire and bone screws in the medical industry, and fasteners in the aerospace industry. Instron's MicroTorsion Tester features a rigid, tabletop mounted load frame. The tabletop design has a small footprint and requires minimal lab space. Instron's 55MT is equipped with an adjustable crosshead that allows for easy specimen loading. In addition, the system includes a torque cell protection device that prevents damage to the cell during installation of fixtures and test setup. Torque cells with capacities as low as 0.2 N-m (7.77 in-lb) are available for ultra low torque applications.

High torsional stiffness and minimal axial friction is accomplished with the unique dual linear slide design. The 55MT is able to test specimens that require only a few degrees of rotation or multiple turns in one or both directions. It is designed to test up to 36,000 revolutions. Instron's MicroTorsion tester utilizes Partner software, a fully integrated modular software package designed with torsion testing templates.
