B&G Launches H5000 Instrument and Autopilot System

H5000 Sets a New Bar for Performance, Functionality and Integration

Tulsa, Okla. — B&G – the world leader in marine instruments, autopilot systems and tactical software solutions – announced today the innovative H5000 instrument and autopilot system, featuring the most powerful race-proven technology and advanced data processing available. Building on the best sailing instrument and autopilot system on the market, the H3000, B&G has spent countless man hours of research and development time refining and enhancing the system which has aided navigators to win the Volvo Ocean Race, America’s Cup and the Vendee Globe. The B&G H5000 system integrates exclusive sailing features and all critical instrumentation, sensors and sailing data together for fast and effective analysis to improve sailing performance decisions.

At the center of the powerful new H5000 system is a dual processor CPU (Central Processing Unit) capable of running up to 50 times faster than its closest rival. The sophisticated H5000 CPU has three software options: Hydra, Hercules and Performance. The software range ensures cruisers and racers have the system that best suits their unique requirements. Designed to provide highly accurate and easy to read data, the H5000 system integrates with the Zeus multifunction sailing display to provide the most cost effective and flexible instrumentation system available for serious cruisers and professional racers. In addition to navigation display and autopilot compatibility, the H5000 works with many existing H3000 sensors including Wind, Speed and Heel, making the switch to H5000 seamless for current B&G users. The sleek, compact system fits well into an established NMEA 2000® network or as the heart of a new network of instruments.

The H5000 system is comprised of Graphic and Race Displays, Autopilot, Pilot Controller and Modules. The high resolution, full color H5000 Graphic Display has a highly intuitive user interface that provides new ways of visualizing sailing data in digital or graphical formats. Giving sailors access to exclusive sailing features including the unique Start line function and SailSteer page, the Graphic Display features an extremely low power, lightweight large digital backlit 5-inch bonded LCD screen and delivers accurate, segmented text and numbers for clear and easy to see information at a glance. As a result of B&G’s continued development with Grand Prix racing and cruising sailors, the H5000 Pilot has been refined and enhanced to include dedicated sailing algorithms, which allow it to meet the exacting needs of a performance sailboat and its crew – whether short-handed or just looking for an extra pair of hands. The compact H5000 Pilot Controller unit, waterproof to IPx7 standard, gives users dedicated access to the H5000 Pilot functions.

Offering unlimited options for system customization, users can choose from an array of precision H5000 sensors and modules including B&G’s unique 3D motion correcting Wave Technology, a High Resolution Barometric pressure sensor with integrated air temperature, and a network alarm module. Sailors can also connect to a PC or tablet with the CPU’s Ethernet networking capability to access the most detailed features of the H5000 system. An easy to use web-style portal lets users calibrate instruments, configure displays and select features. In addition, access to product manuals, data backups and system diagnostics is available through this powerful configuration tool.

“B&G’s commitment to sailors has never been greater and our new H5000 is the fruit of the most committed sailors and engineers in the marine electronics industry,” said Leif Ottosson, CEO of Navico. “We took the most celebrated instrument system available and enhanced it – continuing to lead the way and prove that B&G is a unique brand with unique values. This is just the start of a wave of new and exciting B&G products to come in the coming months. We are continuously working hard to meet the needs of sailors, whose demands and expectations are our benchmark.”
