Simrad Yachting Introduces SG05 Autopilot with Optimus Steering Integration

New Simrad SG05 Offers Compatibility with Optimus EPS and Optimus 360 by SeaStar Solutions

Tulsa, Okla. – Simrad Yachting, a leader in the design and manufacture of world-class marine navigation, autopilot, radar, communications and fishfinding systems, announced today its Simrad SG05 Autopilot featuring full compatibility between Simrad navigation systems, and SeaStar Solutions' Optimus Power Steering (EPS) and Optimus 360 Joystick docking control systems. Breaking new ground, the completely integrated autopilot solution makes it easier than ever before to auto-steer. With the Optimus EPS, Simrad SG05, and a Simrad NSO, NSE or NSS multifunction display, boaters can navigate hands-free to make the most of their time on the water, while the autopilot does all of the hard work.

An incredibly flexible addition to any Optimus-equipped boat, the Simrad SG05 can also be controlled via a Simrad AP24, AP28 or OP10 Autopilot control unit. The advanced SG05 autopilot will guide the Optimus EPS or Optimus 360 steering system to a waypoint, heading or set turn pattern such as a U turn, Spiral turn and many more — it can even initiate a zigzag turn, with the combination of Seastar Solutions’ hydraulic SmartCylinders and the Simrad SG05's clever use of the CAN-bus data network. Perfect for fishing, the SG05 autopilot can even use depth tracking to steer a route. The Simrad SG05 autopilot paired with the Optimus steering systems via the CAN-bus data network requires no additional hydraulic pump, resulting in an easy and cost effective installation — ideal for equipping new boats and retrofits.

"The Simrad SG05 is the ultimate choice for center consoles, cruisers and other twin and triple engine boats with an Optimus steering system," said Leif Ottosson, CEO, Navico. "The SG05 is the most cost effective, easy to install and feature-packed autopilot available. It combines nearly 70 years of Simrad autopilot excellence with innovative new technologies such as joystick steering and eliminates the need for an additional autopilot pump."

The Simrad SG05 is the perfect companion for all on water adventures. Equipped with rugged Simrad Yachting construction and over 65 years of marine electronics expertise, the innovative system includes all the useful and signature design features you would expect from a Simrad autopilot including Auto, NAV, NoDrift and FollowUp modes, Dodge and advanced turn patterns.

Available now, the Simrad SG05 autopilot starts at US $1,018. For more information on the SG05 autopilot, compatible Simrad multifunction displays or the complete line of Simrad Yachting branded professional-grade marine electronics, please visit www.simrad-yachting.com.
