GA-ASI Introduces Griffin Eye Manned ISR System

Integrated Solution to Increase Airborne ISR Collection Capabilities Significantly

FARNBOROUGH INTERNATIONAL AIR SHOW - General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA ASI), a leading manufacturer of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), tactical reconnaissance radars, and surveillance systems, today introduced Griffin Eye(TM), a new manned Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance (ISR) system designed to increase airborne ISR collection capabilities significantly.

"Griffin Eye represents a total end-to-end airborne ISR solution," said Linden Blue, president, Reconnaissance Systems Group, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. "It integrates the airborne payload package with an operator console station that collects, formats, and displays sensor data for optimum exploitation. Imagery and exploitation products can then be sent via an airborne data link to ground stations for further analysis."

Building upon its success with the battle-proven Predator® UAS, GA-ASI is expanding into the manned ISR realm with the Griffin Eye ISR system. Griffin Eye provides field commanders and border patrol agencies with enhanced image exploitation and Claw® multi-sensor payload control. The system delivers the all-weather precision capability to detect, identify, and track time-sensitive targets anytime, anywhere. Its GA-ASI Lynx® Synthetic Aperture Radar/Ground Moving Target Indicator (SAR/GMTI) provides all-weather, wide-area surveillance to locate targets of interest and cross-cues its Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) cameras for visual verification.

GA-ASI's experience with integrating sensors and data links onto its own Predator-series UAS has led to offering similar capabilities on a wide variety of manned aircraft systems, including King Air 350 (ER), DHC-6 Twin Otter, Cessna Citation, Pilatus PC-12, King Air 200, and Beechcraft 1900D. The company has proven experience integrating sensors and data links onto these aircraft, including its own Claw mission control system, along with a wide variety of camera systems, radar systems, data links, communications systems, ground stations and remote terminals, and sensor operator consoles. Most recently, it has assembled and integrated sensor and communications equipment onto the operator console stations of sheltered fixed ground stations for modified Beechcraft King Air 350 Extended Range aircraft under the U.S. Government's Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.

"Griffin Eye represents a new era in manned ISR flight and offers an off-the-shelf capability that is available with exportable systems," said Neal Blue, chairman and CEO, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. "In particular, Griffin Eye has attracted significant interest among customers who require an ISR-capability based on a manned aircraft platform."
