Magnetic Slip Clutches feature custom shafts.

Press Release Summary:

Suited for office automation equipment, torque-limiting Series OPL includes 9 different models with torques ranging from .17-3.52 lb-in. Units create torque magnetically, so there is minimal amount of stick slip. Sealed design prevents wear particles from contaminating machine and particles from machine contaminating slip clutch. Customers can order any length shaft they need with any snap ring or D cut dimensions.

Magnetic Slip Clutches Available With Custom Shafts

Ogura Industrial Corporation announces expansion of their OPL Series Torque Limiter. The OPL Series is designed for paper and film applications for copy machines, photo development machines, network printers and other office automation equipment. The OPL units are available in nine different models from .17 -3.52 in.lb. in torque. Slip torque is created magnetically inside the unit. The units contain both magnetic particles and permanent magnets. The drag between the magnetic particles against the steel housing creates drag. Unlike friction units, the OPL units create torque magnetically so there is a minimal amount of breakaway torque (stick slip). This is extremely important in printing applications on paper and light film where paper vibration due to inadequate tension control can cause a resolution problem.

Another advantage with the OPL Series over friction types of torque limiters is that they are sealed. This prevents any type of wear particles from contaminating the machine and vice versa prevents any particles from the machine contaminating the OPL units. With the expanded ability of custom shafting, customers can simply order the length of shaft (400 stainless steel) they need with any snap ring or D cut dimensions. Additional items, like bearings, gears and rollers, can also be added to make a complete custom sub-assembly that the OEM can easily install in their machine.

For applications requiring units without a shaft, Ogura also makes the OPL0R Series in 7 different models, which uses the customer's shaft.

Ogura was founded in 1938. They have since grown to be the largest manufacturer of electromagnetic clutches and brakes in the world. Ogura is ISO9001, 14001, TS16949 and RoHS and WEEE compliant.
