ADMET Introduces New Design for Hydraulic Universal Testing Machines That Drives Down Purchase and Calibration Costs

Innovative bottom-mounted servo-hydraulic piston and static crosshead dramatically reduce frame costs while maintaining accuracy...

NORWOOD, Mass. - Oct. 13, 2003 - ADMET Inc., a provider of integrated materials testing systems, today introduced the ExPress line of servo-hydraulic universal testing machines. The new models introduce an innovative approach to testing machines that dramatically reduces purchase and calibration costs while maintaining the highest levels of accuracy and reliability.

Ideally suited where similar tests are performed frequently, the ExPress testing machines feature a static crosshead and a bottom-mounted servo-hydraulic piston for automatic testing in tension or compression. This design eliminates costly, movable column components by incorporating piston strokes of 12 inches or longer. The ExPress machines are available in capacities from 50KN (kilo Newton) (11,250 lb) to 600KN (135,000 lb) and are designed for testing wire, strapping, fasteners, sheet materials, bar stock, rounds and more.

ExPress addresses repetitive testing

ADMET research has shown that most test machines are used to perform repetitive product or material tests and do not require frequent repositioning of the crosshead. The ExPress machine uses a fixed crosshead and a longer stroke piston to accommodate the small adjustments that might be necessary when testing similar types of specimens.

"We have taken a bold new approach to static testing that has led to an accurate, rugged, less costly design," said Richard Gedney, ADMET founder and president. "Since we've reduced the number and complexity of the moving parts, the ExPress will have lower purchase and service costs plus better accuracy compared to conventional hydraulic universal testing machines. An added bonus is that many tests currently run on electromechanical screw drive machines can be switched to the less costly ExPress because of the longer stroke piston."

The floor-mounted units employ strain gage load cells for direct measurement of force to eliminate piston friction and other non-linearities. The ExPress frame works with a full complement of optional accessories, grips and fixtures, including fixtures for tension, compression, shear, peel and bend testing.

Two digital controllers are available for the ExPress. Both provide closed loop control of the servovalve for accurate, repeatable testing. The Precise Digital Controller is a standalone unit with load, axial strain and piston position measurements. It includes automatic data analysis and report generation and is ideal for harsh environments that preclude the use of a personal computer. MTESTWindows(TM) is a personal computer-based software system that supports a wider range of tests and control profiles, including monotonic, complex and cyclic.

The Precise Digital Controller and MTESTWindows feature easy-to-use controls, administrator- and user-level operating permissions, and easy-to-read data presentations. Both interfaces output data to laboratory information management systems (LIMS), spreadsheets and other databases.

ExPress frames are available in capacities from 50KN (11,250 lb) to 600KN (135,000 lb) with pricing starting at $17,500. All models are available immediately, directly from ADMET and from ADMET representatives.
