LED UV Lamp identifies flaws in aerospace and NDT industries.

Press Release Summary:

Using LED array, Model EV6000 casts 9 in. round spot at 15 in. distance from testing surface and requires only 0.6 A of current. Stable intensity of LEDs meets ASTM E3022 and Rolls-Royce RRES90061 standards. Featuring lightweight, compact sealed housing with LED cooling system and user-replaceable front shield and UV filter, lamp is suited for inspecting large aerostructures, including engine housings, disks, landing gear, structural components, and fan blades.

Next-Generation EV6000 LED UV Lamp

More reliable, easier to use and its wider beam illuminates larger inspection areas

GLENVIEW, Illinois – An improved wide-beam LED UV inspection lamp, the EV6000, is being introduced to aerospace and other NDT industries, enabling quicker and easier flaw identification via fluorescent illumination. The specially designed LED array of the EV6000 UV lamp casts a 9-inch (23 cm) round spot at a 15-inch (38 cm) distance from the testing surface, which is double the beam width of other aerospace-rated lamps. The new lamp is built by Magnaflux, a division of Illinois Tool Works (ITW) and a global leader in NDT products, equipment and quality technologies, a leader in UV lamp design.

The EV6000's LED array is designed to cast uniformly bright illumination, and the stable intensity of the LEDs meets the ASTM E3022 and Rolls-Royce RRES90061 standards. New industry standards for LED inspection lamps were finalized last autumn, and the EV6000 meets these recent benchmarks. The EV6000 features the industry's widest LED beam width, and the lightweight and compact housing features user-replaceable front shield and UV filter.

“We designed the EV6000 with large aerostructures in mind, such as engine housings, disks, landing gear, structural components, fan blades. To complete the inspection task properly, the inspector must move around the part, bringing the UV lamp and other materials along,” explained David Geis, MAGNAFLUX product manager. “It takes time for the inspector to view all the surfaces, both outside and inside the part. With a larger beam width, the size of parts that can be viewed as a whole is greater, saving time and effort.”

The EV6000's 1-year warranty is substantially longer than that of a mercury vapor lamp, and it features a durable sealed housing with an LED cooling system. “The wider inspection area helps cover large surfaces in less time, and fewer lamp positions are necessary to complete an inspection,” added Geis. “Recognition of flaws is improved since the visibility of indications is not as dependent on the position of the lamp.” The EV6000 is about one-third less weight than a conventional mercury-vapor lamp, and it is balanced for less user fatigue when the lamp is handheld or repositioned.

Using an efficient LED array, the EV6000 requires only 0.6 A current, adding to portability and flexibility of testing environments. The EV6000 handle ball mount works with standard Magnaflux mounting systems.

ADVANTAGES:

• Wide spot beam from stable LED array

• Durable, reliable, low-current design for portability

• Full 1-year warranty

• User serviceable shield and UV filter

• Conforms to ASTM E3022 and Rolls-Royce RRES90061 aerospace standards
