Inline Production System programs non-volatile memories.

Press Release Summary:

Developed for in-system programming of non-volatile memories such as Flash, MCUs, and PLDs, RAPIDO™ RPS3000-S32XL provides surface for multi-board panels up to 500 x 500 mm. System, based on Embedded System Access (ESA) technologies and SCANFLEX® architecture with Short Wire Interface for up to 32 sites, supports double-sided probing for up to 3,000 nails. Functionality also allows for combination of programming tasks with various test strategies.

Original Press Release:

GOEPEL Electronic Upgrades RAPIDO System Series for Cost-Efficient On-Board Programming

At the 2013 SMT/Hybrid/Packaging show, GOEPEL electronic announced the market introduction of another RAPIDO™ series inline production system for in-system programming and board test based on the latest Embedded System Access (ESA) technologies. The new model named RPS3000-S32XL provides an increased surface for multi-board panels up to 500 X 500 mm. Based on an enhanced SCANFLEX® architecture with Short Wire Interface for up to 32 sites, it supports double-sided probing for up to 3000 nails.

RPS3000-S32XL was developed for fast and reliable in-system programming of non-volatile memories such as Flash, Microcontroller (MCU) and Programmable Logic Devices (PLD). The system additionally allows for the combination of programming tasks with test strategies such as Boundary Scan, Processor Emulation, Chip Embedded Instruments or Functional Test. These procedures can be executed in parallel on 32 boards integrated into one panel. In conjunction with the patented handling mechanics the scalable overall system merges the benefits of a highly flexible programming capability with the highest throughput. Hence, utilizing RAPIDO results in a significant reduction of storage costs and total production costs.

“The RAPIDO system family plays a key role in our strategic planning for production equipment based on Embedded System Access. With the new XL model we are finally able to meet customer requirements for significantly higher panel dimensions”, says Bettina Richter, Marketing Manager with GOEPEL electronic. “Together with available options and our customer-specific engineering, the model range extension brings us in an even better position to provide turnkey solutions with an ideal price-performance-ratio.”

About the RAPIDO™ system family:

The RAPIDO product range contains three models with different numbers of nails, sites and panel surfaces. Furthermore, there are numerous options for system adaptation to specific customer requirements for inline integration or special programming strategies. All systems are based on the utilization of advanced ESA technologies for test and programming of highly complex boards.

All types of Flash devices such as NOR, NAND, eMMC with parallel or serial interface are supported. In the case of Flash that is not externally accessible via connectors, direct programming by means of probes is possible because RAPIDO features separate dynamic I/O. Additional targets are microcontrollers and all types of PLDs or FPGAs. In addition to programming, a wide range of structural test methods and at-speed test is available. The particular focal points here are the interconnection test of chips in BGA housings and the functional verification of all circuitries.

About Chip Embedded Instruments:

Chip embedded Instruments are permanently integrated or temporarily implemented test and measurement functions (T&M) in an integrated circuit. Virtually, they are the counterpart to external T&M instruments as they don’t require invasive contacting by means of probes or nails. Hence, the problem of signal distortion in high-speed designs by parasitic contacting effects is omitted. Chip embedded Instruments are part of the so called Embedded System Access (ESA) technologies that are currently the most modern strategy for validation, test and debug as well as programming of complex boards and systems. They can be utilized throughout the entire product life cycle, enabling improved test coverage at reduced costs.
