MEMSense Introduces a High Performance Inertial Measurement Unit

MEMSense has developed a new miniature Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) with unsurpassed features in the inertial product market. The H3 IMU supports sample rates up to 1000 Hz via the RS422 serial protocol. The encode pulse output from the H3 IMU provides precise timing information for each sensor signal that is encoded. The high sample rate and encode pulse output make the H3 IMU ideally suited for dynamic control systems, such as unmanned aerial systems or short range missiles and rockets.

The H3-IMU has dimensions of 2.000 x 1.110 x 0.645 inches and a mass less than 30 grams. The H3 IMU includes triaxial accelerometers, gyroscopes and magnetometers that are corrected for bias, scale factor and cross sensitivity over the operating temperature ranges. The triaxial gyros in the H3 IMU are available with dynamic ranges from ±50 °/s to ±5400 °/s while the triaxial magnetometer has a dynamic range of ±1.9 gauss.

The H3 IMU adds further value with two external analog inputs that allow OEM developer the option to encode extra analog signals along with the inertial sensor data. Still another beneficial feature in the H3 IMU is the 1 second pulse digital output that provides a signal to synchronize with a GPS receiver. A 24 bit sample counter is also included through the serial digital interface of the IMU.

H3 IMU - P
The H3 IMU - P provides enhanced acceleration measuring capabilities with a low bias offset accelerometer. The bias repeatability of the accelerometer is less than 1.5 mg for the ±2g input range. This is a considerable improvement over typical MEMS based accelerometers where typical bias offsets are in the 10 mg to 30 mg range after corrections are applied. The accelerometers in the H3 IMU - P also have many dynamic range input options that can be ordered from ±2g to ±200g.

H3 IMU - N
For applications requiring a standard accelerometer the H3 IMU - N provides a cost effective solution for a high sample rate IMU. The accelerometer dynamic ranges in the N option can be ordered at ±2g, ±5g or ±10g.

The H3 IMU brings together the highest performance miniature sensing capabilities with a valuable collection of auxiliary functions that bring value to your sensing application.
