In-Line Fiber Polarimeter measures SOP changes.
Press Release Summary:
March 13, 2014 - Inserted into fiber system at any point, FireBird In-Line Fiber Polarimeter Module measures specific State of Polarization. Stokes parameters are obtained at >1M Sample/s and data can be processed as required by user through PC user interface. In addition to Stokes parameter measurement, included software provides Poincare Sphere display, Polarization ellipse display, and parameters such as DOP. Polarimeter can also be used for PMD and PDL measurements.

Phoenix Expands FireBird Range with the Introduction of Its In-Line Fiber Polarimeter for Super-fast SOP Analysis.
Press release date: March 9, 2014
The existing FireBird range consists of polarization management and measurement equipment utilized in Telecommunications Test & Measurement, Research Laboratories, and Fiber Optic Sensing applications.
The Phoenix In-Line Fiber Polarimeter complements the popular FireBird range allowing for measurement of SOP changes. The instrument provides for minimally invasive polarization analysis in fiber systems. Based on a miniature in-fiber Polarimeter, this compact module is designed with versatility in mind and can be inserted into a fiber system at any point to measure the specific State of Polarization (SOP). Fully controlled from a PC the Stokes parameters are obtained at a high rate (>1M Sample/s) and the data can be processed as required by the user through the PC user interface.
The versatility of the module enables continuous high-speed Stokes parameter analysis to provide DOP and SOP. The unit can also be used to make accurate measurement of polarization for PMD and PDL measurement.
The on-board microprocessor links to the PC through a USB interface. Software provided with the Polarimeter gives Stokes parameter measurement, Poincare Sphere display, Polarization ellipse display and parameters such as DOP.
“The Polarimeter was a customer led development project. It’s been great to receive such positive feedback from customers using our polarization products, and this was the next step in providing a complete solution for SOP management and analysis.” Said Dean Giles, Business Development Director of Phoenix Photonics.
“The bench-top instrument connects via USB to the PC in an easy-to-use format, allowing us to introduce additional functionality to widen flexibility. We are particularly pleased, in line with customer expectations, that the technology we use allows us to offer them world-class quality instruments at a highly competitive price,” he added.
In addition to the new Firebird products, Phoenix will also be showing its full range of components, modules and instruments, including Few Mode Fiber (FMF) components for Spatial Division Multiplexing (SDM) applications.
At the associated conference, Dr. Giles, CEO at Phoenix Photonics, is also an invited speaker in Category 6. Fiber and Waveguide-Based Devices: Amplifiers, Lasers, Sensors, and Performance Monitors. Fiber Based Fan-in and Fan-out Devices for Few Mode Communications.
