New Caterpillar(R) 314C CR Hydraulic Excavator Works Productively and Cost Effectively in Tight Spaces

Caterpillar introduces the 314C CR hydraulic excavator with a compact radius design that makes the machine ideal for urban contractors and others who work in space-restricted applications. The 314C CR offers high performance, excellent controllability, a comfortable operator station and extended service intervals to increase productivity and reduce operating costs.

The new machine weighs as much as 32,590 pounds (14 810 kg), depending on how it is equipped, and produces 90 net horsepower (67 kW). A versatile excavator, it accommodates two stick sizes, five bucket options, three blade widths and a variety of work tools. When equipped with the long stick, the 314C CR has a maximum digging depth of 19 feet 6 inches (5.95 m). Tail swing radius is just 4 feet 10 inches (1.47 m), making the machine easy to operate against walls and in other tight places.

Economical power, precise control

The 314C CR is powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged Cat® 3064T diesel engine, developed for heavy-duty use. The new engine features long-stroke piston movement for high torque at medium to low speeds, plus excellent thermal efficiency, low fuel consumption and reduced sound and vibration levels.

An open-center, two-pump hydraulic system provides high efficiency and outstanding control. The hydraulic system uses each of the main pumps to 100 percent of engine power under all operating conditions, resulting in fast implement speeds and pivot turns. Pump flow decreases automatically when controls are in neutral to minimize fuel consumption and sound levels. A stick regeneration circuit conserves energy while the stick is in use, shortening cycle times and lowering operating costs. A boom drift reducing valve limits drift when material is suspended, improving safety, efficiency and productivity.

Versatile by design

The front linkage on the 314C CR is designed for flexibility. A 9-foot- 10-inch (3.0 m) stick maximizes reach, while an 8-foot-2-inch (2.5 m) stick increases versatility. Five buckets are offered for additional versatility.

The machine can be equipped with either standard or long undercarriage, and three blade widths are available to meet a variety of customer requirements.

Comfortable cab, easy operation

The cab is spacious and quiet, enhancing operator comfort and productivity. A sliding door offers easy entry and exit when working in tight quarters. An automatic climate control system keeps the work environment well ventilated. Ergonomically
designed consoles, low-effort controls and an easy-to-read monitor allow the operator to work comfortably and focus on production all shift long.

Reduced maintenance time

Key maintenance and service intervals on the 314C CR have been extended to improve machine availability and reduce operating costs. By using a new type of bearing, the front linkage greasing interval has been extended to 1,000 hours, except in bucket areas. Daily maintenance can be performed quickly and accurately because critical check points are grouped on the left side of the machine and are accessible from the ground.
