UltraMax(TM) HID Electronic Ballast System Flattens Lumen Depreciation

CLEVELAND - When paired with a PulseArc® Multi-Vapor® Metal Halide lamp from GE Consumer & Industrial, the UltraMax(TM) HID Electronic Ballast System delivers up to 70 percent greater efficiency (mean lumens per watt) than a standard probe-start metal halide lamp on an HID electromagnetic ballast system. Compared with a standard metal halide lamp on an electromagnetic pulse-start ballast system, the UltraMax(TM) HID Electronic Ballast System improves mean lumens per watt up to 20 percent.

Designed for use in retail, commercial, industrial and property management settings where color, lumen maintenance and cost of light are concerns, the versatile UltraMax(TM) HID Electronic Ballast System provides optimal performance when running pulse-start or ceramic metal halide lamps from GE in wattages that include 250, 300, 320, 350 and 400.

Lumen Appreciation, Not Depreciation

Businesses using the UltraMax(TM) HID Electronic Ballast System in either retrofits or new installations will appreciate the work GE has done to address light output and lumen depreciation. Whereas a standard metal halide HID lamp experiences up to a 50 percent drop in light output over its rated life, the UltraMax(TM) HID Electronic Ballast System improves lumen maintenance by more than 10 points (13 percent) with high-output pulse-start metal halide lamps and by more than five points with high-output ceramic metal halide lamps (at 8,000 hours or 40 percent of rated life).

Better lumen maintenance performance saves companies money by allowing for the extension of re-lamping time frames.

Watts the Deal?

When opting for the UltraMax(TM) HID Electronic Ballast System instead of older technologies in retrofits, companies can reach or exceed mean light levels with lower-wattage lamps. In one energy-saving example, a company could replace MVR400/U lamps with 320-watt High-Output PulseArc® Multi-Vapor® Metal Halide lamps from GE to save up to 113 watts per fixture, attain 24 percent more mean light and extend re-lamping schedules.

UltraMax(TM) HID Electronic Ballast Systems do equally well in new installations. In pairing PulseArc® Multi-Vapor® Metal Halide or ConstantColor® CMH® lamps from GE with the new UltraMax(TM) HID Electronic Ballast System, companies can cut costs by using about 34 percent fewer fixtures. The reduction is achieved using a recommended GE lamp-ballast combination that optimizes light levels. Other benefits include up to 41 percent energy savings and 37 percent operating cost savings (depends on kW rate, re-lamping schedule, etc.).

Use of the ballast, which easily connects to bracket- or surface-mounted HID fixtures and runs on 208-277 volts, reduces lamp blackening, improves color consistency and eliminates flickering.

"We think the UltraMax(TM) HID Electronic Ballast System has far-reaching appeal," says Jeffrey Plaskon, North America ballast product manager, GE Consumer & Industrial. "It's the ideal solution for retailers and other facilities that want consistent light quality and optimal color rendering, on top of tremendous energy efficiency."
